This 7 1/8 navy blue 3X was too nice to pass up. The problem is no one ever seems to have 7 5/8 or 7 3/4 hats for trade.

Not a lot to go on based on the seller’s photos, but the condition looks promising. The overwelt with the contrasting threads looks unusual too.

Am I right in thinking that the 1923 date in the liner indicates that it predates the Stetson buy out when the 1917 date came into it use?

Yes. From my reading, 1823 means generally pre-46 takeover. At least if it says 1817 it is post-46.

Some of the other guys can maybe comment on potential overlap, etc.

Made a deal almost a week ago with a FB seller for what I’m pretty sure is a 1950’s vintage Open Road in pretty good condition. Problem is, seller hasn’t shown much interest in shipping or even providing payment info. At this point, I’m almost afraid to send any money...

Thank you. I did find some interesting stuff in the Century. From what I read the date of manufacture was inconclusive, but probably not a centennial model for Mallory, or at least made after their actual centennial date. I haven’t received my Century yet, but from the style I’m expecting it to be newer than Charlie’s. I’ll post tags, labels, debossings, union labels, and anything else it has once I receive it.

I don’t think it is a a true Cavanagh edge. It looks like the a simpler faux felted edge (glued?). I got it for a fair price so I’m not too concerned.
