Is it a cover or a liner being used as a crown cover?
The latter.

Thank you for the heads up @georgie girl Decided to pick this one up. The back bow is not my preferred style.... but I did not have one... the bow and the oilskin liner I think prob place it squarely in the 50’s. AND it’s a 2 1/4 brim with Cavanagh edge. Been wanting a brown hat with a brim in this range for a while. A Knox twenty to boot. Thanks again!Just thought I'd give a heads up to anyone looking for a knox twenty that is very inexpensively priced that I saw today on Etsy. I'm not a size 7, but some of you might be. I didn't inquire as to what the brim width was, but it did look like it had an oilskin liner in it.
The seller initiated contact and offered this hat at a price I couldn’t say not to:

It’s only a size 7 1/4, but I’m sure it will find a good home.
I’m sure it will. Beautiful hat.The seller initiated contact and offered this hat at a price I couldn’t say not to:

You've got some mighty nice seller-friends, Brent!
Are you interested in this one, Randy?
Thanks for the kind offer, Brent, but I'll let someone else pick it up. I'm not holding on to many big westerns any more.
Excellent... nice job Steve. Now you have me picturing large handed bullies snatching hats off peoples heads.Ye Olde Knox Derby showed up today.
It had a bunch of finger sized dents in the top where some large, unpleasant person tried to snatch it off of someone's head many years ago. I know this as I had someone try that in NYC to me many years ago. I got my hat back but it had a few dents in it.
At any rate, a little cleaning and some steam and it popped right back into shape. One of the dents made a really loud POP! when it snapped back.
$20 well spent.

I am not a great fan of the back bow except that it screams out as from a certain era and that I like. I have just one with a Bloomingdales label. The back bow is from two eras, if I remember right. Late 50s but also it was briefly popular the 1920s (or maybe it was the 30s, I can't remember which).I am not a great fan of the back bow except that it screams out as from a certain era and that I like. Mine is from the late 50's. I call it my Ed Norton hat.The back bow is from two eras, if I remember right. Late 50s but also it was briefly popular the 1920s (or maybe it was the 30s, I can't remember which).
