OTHER THAN eBAY Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Of course I could be wrong.
Bill, I do not think you are....full printed label.....brim width....all say late 40's early 50's. Regardless of the sweat (could be a replacement, BUT has the shallow de-bossing of a 50's hat) AND the brim on a 30's hat would be significantly shorter.....
BUT, it still is an awesome find!!!!!!!!!!!!! A beautiful woman at any ;)age!

I’ve never seen a Borsalino like this so I had to get it just to see what it’s about. I’m sure it will be going to the classifieds once I get to experience it.

What a coincidence, Brent. I just bought this mystery hat. It doesn't have a liner or a sweatband, so it is destined to Ignacio. I intend to keep it.

Very interesting, Max. Is it fur felt with concentric rows of stitching? At first glance I thought it was a Milan weave of some kind.

I like it. I really like it. I’m looking forward to seeing it after Ignacio does his magic. These unusual hats are so cool.

I am trying to only buy hats that are unusual in some way. I thought it was concentric, but it is a spiral, I think.

What era is this size tag from? I don't remember seeing one, but I don't remember a lot of things.

I've come across it once before in a collapsible opera hat - 1930s I would think and I would guess your (beautiful) derby to be from a similar time. Not sure of its place or significance in Stetson manufacturing history. I had thought this hat might have come from an outside factory source.

I am all excited this morning!

Some months ago Alan posted a picture of himself wearing an awesome cap by Keith Lo Bue. Like I told Keith, I felt my soul shrivel with envy when I saw it,
but it never occurred to me that he might still have some of that fabric, so I never asked him to make one for me.

The picture kept popping up in my mind, so yesterday I finally asked Keith if he had some of that fabric left over to make a cap for me, and today he found it!

I asked for it in The New Argonne design.

It will be a long three weeks waiting for it to arrive in Texas!

Thank you so much, Alan! You are a continuing source of inspiration. Like Moon said recently, the game is so much better when you play.

I love that material, Max, and have envied over it myself.

I wonder, though, if you have considered the style of cap you chose and how those 4 separate cut-out pieces might affect the finished product.

If you look at other designs that leave the top in one full piece of cloth you'll see what I mean.

Have you seen this pic on Keith's Instagram website page showing the l'Aronde (The Dove) 1920s-pattern French casquette style? There are others as well.... just a thought.

Here is another example of his Bowery design in material that Justin bought, and I also love:

And the Five Points cap:

Keith has so many styles, it can be daunting to choose...

Aghhh! You have planted the seed of doubt. I still have time to change my mind. I think you're probably right. It would be a shame to alter the pattern by dividing it in pieces.
Hmmm. I will be deciding on the beach today.

Winter is Over.....run about finds continued.......next is another entry for a mid to late 50's Stetson 3X dress fedora. Has a mode edge, GREAT FELT! Hard to capture the color....kind of a light blue/light grey. Has a wind trolley as well as a 2 1/2 inch brim! Only really, really wish it was my size! Size 7:( so set out for trade...... View attachment 162443 View attachment 162444 View attachment 162445
AND THEN....on Sunday.........at an antique show .......sitting on a chair........is THIS AWSOME 30'S STANDARD QUALITY STETSON!!;) Great wide frayed end, offset ribbon, really nice felt with a goldish lining, has a cream colored sweat (which makes the debossing hard to read). It is a light grey with black ribbon. AND.......AND......AND.......IT IS MY SIZE! So, I just guess I will keep it!:):):):):):):):):):):):):)
It is not new and minty like some of my other finds, but it has character built right in! The awsome bash is as found......and while Standard Quality was the 5 dollar introductory hat to the Stetson line bavk then.....the felt quality still beats the hell out of most any modern fedora! How exciting... I'm sure you will love it. I'm not sure you will look as cute as me, but with a little practice... ;^)
