OTHER THAN eBAY Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Ok, so a couple of weeks ago I was in this antique mall......saw this hat and lost my mind! Now as a rule....I really, really, do not like these cloth hats......maybe it was because it was my size.....maybe the deep olive plaid (which does not show in the picts).....maybe because it had a wider than normal brim and ribbon ( just over a 2 inch brim) and a taller crown (4 1/2 at the front pinch). Maybe it was because it was only $9........and MAYBE it was because it made me think of this 1911 ad I have.....

Now of course THIS hat is not that old........probebly 60's......and until now I did not have a cloth hat example...........but then.........maybe I really DID loose my mind!
Anyway, here it is......

I love that material, Max, and have envied over it myself.

I wonder, though, if you have considered the style of cap you chose and how those 4 separate cut-out pieces might affect the finished product.

If you look at other designs that leave the top in one full piece of cloth you'll see what I mean.

Have you seen this pic on Keith's Instagram website page showing the l'Aronde (The Dove) 1920s-pattern French casquette style? There are others as well.... just a thought.

Here is another example of his Bowery design in material that Justin bought, and I also love:

And the Five Points cap:

Keith has so many styles, it can be daunting to choose...
Keith just told me that if he makes the Argonne he will be able to make a fantastic pattern that has a style all its own, so I asked him to make it that way, Doug.
I also asked him to make the darts pointy, and he replied that more rounded are more refined and difficult to make, but I like them marked anyway.

Nice to see something different every now and then. Great find!

Just bought this cap from Keith Lo Bue, of The Well Dressed Head. The pictures are his, of course.

The LE MANS - 1920s Style Flat Cap in Shrunken Sheepskin Leather with Horsehide Visor and Vintage Kimono Liner.

I had been resisting the urge to buy it for some time. When he told me this was a one off, because he can't find more of the shrunken sheepskin, my resolve gave way.

In the words of Alfred P. Doolitle, Eliza's father, "with a little bit of luck, when temptation comes you'll give right in."

LOL! It was my Mom's favorite movie. I must have watched it with her at least twelve times, and we sang the lyrics together.

My favorite line is
"They're always throwing goodness at you
But, with a little bit of luck a man can duck."

Your stock keeps going up, Max. It’s a favorite at my house too. My kids loved all those ‘50s and ‘60s movies. It wasn’t until they were teenagers that they started watching contemporary films.

Ha, the crack has emerged. It's inevitable now. Just wait til you smell the leather and then you'll be jonesin' for a jacket too.
