I was pretty excited to see what might actually be a vintage "native inspired" top hat in my size. I was thinking a thin, beaded band of similar vintage in R/W/B would really set it off and it could be my National Holiday hat.

ca. 1850-1880; early beaver pelt top hat with black ribbon trimmed rounded arched brim, silk lined with trade advertising inside "G.A. Burger, 2248 N. Front St., Philadelphia" with owner's initial "J.B." pasted inside, accentuated with altered shielded eagle hat emblem and has two feathers in black hat band, 11 1/2"x 9 1/4"x 6 1/4", hat size 7 1/2"; Condition: mount on emblem has been altered, extensive wear to rim, emblem plate is model 1881 with crossed rifles, talon grasping arrows & laurel stem

Looks like G.A. Burger may have gone out in 1898.

Alas, I finally get a response to my inquiry yesterday and the 7-1/2 was truly in inches and this was a size 6-7/8 to size 7. Went for $100. Bummer...

This one with nickel studs & some missing beadwork just brought $1500.

Apparently, I’m still paying for sins from another lifetime: Less than six hours after paying for it the seller notified me that they were “out of stock” and had refunded me. I was going to put the kids through college from the sale of this hat. :)

That just ain't right. The seller may experience a bit of karma down the road in this lifetime. As well as the person that convinced them to cancel a "binding" transaction so they can buy at a higher price.
