I was inspired by the gracious comment of a fellow Lounge member.

And a "gracious comment" I regret having made. So I hereby both humbly and publicly apologize and ask for your forgiveness. May we disagree and still be friends?

At least I'm on record as apologizing. Now we know who's obstinate. Fight's on, big boy.
P.s. I never apologize for something I did not do.

Do me a favor and try not to continue to pollute happyfilmluvguy's thread with your childishness. As a new member you should try to get a "lay of the land". The lay should tell you we attempt to behave ourselves around here and leave schoolyard behavior where it belongs, with the schoolkids.

Scotrace has informed me thru PM that you weren't the culprit.

I'm sorry to have assumed otherwise and I, once again, offer you a sincere apology for my unfounded comments. Apologies, as well, to happyfilmluvguy. You can keep the signature. Now, can we be friends or no? This whole thing is seriously cutting into my Happy Hour!

If nobody will take an offense to this, this is all awkwardly funny. Negativity aside, let's just have fun and keep a sincere smile. :)

Any other onlookers? Anyone else have original photos of Las Vegas?

Wow-I would be happy to go to Vegas if the casinos and hotels still looked like that! I hate Las Vegas, as it is now-even though me and my beau plan to go get married by Elvis there early next year! As long as I don't have to stay there any longer than neccessary!

Thanks for the link, filmguy! :eusa_clap

Are cars still able to drive down Fremont Street? From the look of a recent photo (not here), it looked too crowded to be safe for moving cars.

Here's some of the "early Vegas" casinos.

It seemed that Caesars Palace in '66 was the end of the so-called "Classic Vegas" era. Even though two classics the Aladdin and the Frontier came onto the Vegas scene a few months later, Vegas never was the same.

I just saw the fantastic Kevin Spacey bio-flic of Bobby Darin, "Beyond The Sea". Darin performed at the original Flamingo Hotel. He was so talented. I would have loved to have experienced a live Vegas performance from that era. The "Mega" shows they have now just don't cut it.

I have the Darin CD- The Curtain Falls: Live at the Flamingo (1963). You've got to purchase this gem if you want to hear classic Vegas in all it's slick coolness.

Those pics are too cool! Now that's a Vegas I'd like to see. I had to laugh at the postcard with the atomic explosion in the background (75 miles away); that's the '50s for you, atomic blasts to go with your way-out atomic age architecture! lol

If you took away the sign at the front of "The Mint" casino, the design of the building looks very similar to the bowling alley in Fairfield, just up the road from me. It was built in 1957, burnt down not ogn after, and was rebuilt in 1958.

I also got a kick out of the picture of the Fortune Club taken in 1958, with the (then) brand-new Dodge parked out the front.

It depends on what part of Fremont Street. If you are meaning downtown, no. Hasn't been for years. They blocked it off to open traffic to create the Fremont Steet Experience. Yet the casinos are still open. Fremont Street is covered basically by what one would call a giantgantic canopy LED tv. They play various shows, Patriotic, Area 51 etc. Its cool.
They also have free concerts at the Freemont Street Experince, HoJo played there once a few years ago. Fundraisors (The Great Santa Run), things for our town.

And people please, don't forget, Vegas is not just Down Town and the Strip.:rage:
A few historic places.

Some off the strip and dowtown historical sites. Not old pictures, but still...

Huntridge Theatre, built 1944, has changed hands many times, last time opened was a concert hall. Still in a who knows state since the newer owners want to change appearances etc, and it is protected by the Nevada Historical Society. Marlyand Pkwy & Charleston

Fongs Garden, opened 1955 by Wing Fong, astute business man, helped open Nevada State Bank
