I know the pictures don't show much..... but I see a one piece back, two piece sleeve, and correct hardware. Am I that far off the mark?

Ok guys...... I received it, it's goatskin. Fits like a 40. I'm no expert but I think it's original. Came out of old defunct theater wardrobe .

I've not seen an epaulette configuation like that on any of the mil spec jackets depicted in Gary Eastman's book.

The small nipple snaps are not correct and the stitching on epaulets is not like any seen on original contract A2s. The design is wrong for any issued goatskin A2s. The collar stand for example is only found on RW, Fried Ostermann and Perry goatskin jackets and this civilian A2 does not possess the house features of jackets from these makers.

Thanks for that, Andrew, interesting to know. Now that I see it, the epaulette cross stitch is a long way from the sleeve edge.

Rats!!!! oh well, 50 bucks down the drain.....Lol anyway it has the right fit and cut , and makes a great beater or could be a tribute jacket. If I decide I'll do the lining and knits. Thanks Andrew

For $50, I think it's a helluva jacket. Am I correct in thinking "private purchase" means technically it still could have been used by an airman?

Perhaps a silly question, would not a 'private purchase' A-2 be against military regs ie non-standard? Or was there a certain of flexibility when it came to them?

I don't think policing stich for stich accuracy would have been a high priority in the war years.
