This is why I never have any money...because as soon as I save it some rare old gem pops up that I have to rescue...and poof wallet full of flies. I give you an original 1930s JC Penny Railroad Coat. I plan on moving it onward when I find someone who will value it as much as me, but for now I'm going to try to get some good photos to document it and share with you all. Here are some quick photos I got with my phone, when my friend gets back in town with the camera Id like to do some better photos.
I dug this up while visiting my mother in Montana. As far as I know this would be early to mid 1930s. Judging by the label its got the stylized art deco Indian head logo which was really popular around 1934. You can see the remnants of the Garment Union label. These are just my guesstimates, someone else might be able to date it better than I can. I wear about a size 42.5 or 43 and it fits nicely, maybe ever so slightly on the small side. I would love to have a really nice repro of this in a size larger but I cant find anybody who still makes them. Anyway, here tis. Would love to hear your thoughts and comments on it and further history if anybody knows it.
