Who 'here' has this cycling shoe? I've been in touch and they will do it in black, dark brown or tan. For the price, seems like a great deal by a traditional boot maker in England.

Hi Paddy, I have these in tan.

Good shoes for the price, very lightweight and comfortable, I highly recommend them for the price. I had my local cobbler put some rubber soles on as the leather ones weren't great without toe clips.

Here I am wearing them on the Tweed Run last weekend.

A few years ago Paddy I needed some old style cycling shoes to go with old style toeclips on my machines as no new ones looked or fit in the clips correctly, someone mentioned Lennon's but at the time without easy access to the internet etc I was unable to locate the factory, so I purchased some made in Northampton by Reynolds( not sure if they are still going?) on a friend and fellow vintage cylists recommendation , they were very well made and around £70 then 8 years ago -ish...I think my currenct shoes will last a while yet and I 'll take some pics and show them soon but having seen the quality of Lennon's shoes/boots I would definately have a pair of theirs possibly in brown, ther price seems a steal to me.

just done a bit of searching and here you go; http://www.reynoldsshoes.co.uk/ can't see a price but expect around £90 at a guess...looking at the Lennons I'll be getting some soon in brown (after my forthcoming hols)...the Reynolds are good and come with a rubberover(leather) sole already fitted but the Lennons plus getting a rubber sole fitted is dtill much less than the expected £90 for Reynolds.

The sizings are on the generous side and the leather is very soft and supple but the soles stiff like cycling shoes should be, there is a padded tongue with slits in it to put the lace through and the top is lightly padded for comfort, my pair haven't had loads oif use probably about 50 hours in the saddle and they've fared quite well, I use leather padded toe clips which cut down on shoe wear.

Here's a couple more;

.

Here are another pair of shoes I use when on vintage cycles, well worth seeking out if you can find a pair, they were made for NEXT in the UK, not as a cycling shoe but as a 'trainer', they have a 'vintage' look about them and fairly stiff non slip rubber soles...more importantly they fit in old fashioned toeclips and straps;

Billy, those shoes from the boys in Derbyshire look great and the ensemble for the Tweed Run is a corker. I think I'll be getting a pair, just need to decide on either brown or tan. Do they run true to size (ie: I take a size8 shoe, so do I order a size 8 with these guys?).

Esteban - I saw the Reynolds in my search and very much appreciate the time you've taken to load the pics for reference and assist other folk in here who might be after a vintage style cycling shoe. My gut feeling is leaning towards the Lennon's.

I currently use an old pair of Camper trainers that I bought in Spain a good few years ago, and they do look and fit the part. But are showing their age now with leather splitting..etc. They are 'tan' in colour, so maybe the 'brown' might be a good change and have that 30's cycling club look to them (realistically, I imagine most folk in the 30's in a CC would just use whatever footwear was knocking around - even boots).

Not a million miles away in design to my Next pair Paddy!
I guess the same, I reckon very few cyclists would be able to affors 'proper'cycling shoes in the early days and that a pair of old brogues would do the job quite well.

I normally take an 11 or 11 1/2 and ordered the 11, they feel like a true 11 to me, snug but certainly not tight.

That leather and diamond bike is just a tad contrived for my taste, but it seems it got rave reviews at the event. Not the sort of bike you could safely park outside your supermarket store!!

The GOOD THING is that it does get Press attention and hopefully will encourage more folk to think about cycling as an option :)

Ditto Paddy, hopefully a bunch o medals at the Olympics for the British cycling team will do the same plus Cav winning a few more stages at the Tour de France this year(the best annual sporting event on earth IMHO).

Well..I've been in touch with the folks in "Hope Valley" (what a great name!) at William Lennon's. - thanks to Libs for sending those.

They've kindly sent me some leather samples for 'brown' cycling shoes. I've taken good detailed photos so *CLICK* on the little photos and they will magically grow in size!

I'm toying betwixt the waxy tan or the waxy brown colours. The tan (it's a darkish tan) looks like it will develop more character and patina with use and abuse on the bike (Billy..? any comments).

The leather is a good, strong thickness too that I wasn't expecting!! I'm surprised in a very 'good' way. Without further ado, the photos...

(Colours are listed as TAN WAXY; DARK BROWN LATIGO; BROWN WAXY).
