Old Fedora Photos from Japan

I bought an old book of photos from the 1920s and 1930s, and found a few that might interest you all. Fedoras were apparently very popular in Japan back then, but with a different set of rules on how to wear them.

For one, they were usually worn with kimono. Just a few weeks ago I overheard a customer in a hat store in Ginza ask what hat wold go with a kimono, and the owner recommended a soft hat (fedora). Here's a typical kimono and fedora combination from 1931:

Apparently it was perfectly acceptable to wear a hat while sitting at a table in a restaurant or pub. Here's a photo from 1931:

Finally, I found a few bashes on in this 1931 photo that I have never seen anywhere else! It was taken on the roof of a department store where people could follow a baseball game. I kept the photo large so you could see the bashes clearly:

A sea of hats

Say that last picture of the crowd watching the baseball game, isn't that the proof that the Japaneese had the first prototype "Diamond Vision" which is in all the ball parks today?:p

Hello-

Is the picture of the dog for real?

I used to have a dog that was horrible at playing fetch. As soon as he caught a tennis ball, he would sit down and rip the cover off the ball.

Yes it is my golden. He loves tennis balls so much he has learned to stuff three in his mouth at once. He's beautiful. The pic is hilarious. And the funny thing, we saw a commercial birthday card at the Mailboxex ect. with an older golden doing the same thing.....hahaahahha.

i told my son that the last picture was the original nintendo set from Japan. It didn't sell all that well because of the size, but alot of people love to watch it. If you look real close down close in the middle you will see two little kids with joysticks playing.....

just kidding....

The hat business in Japan was just as big there as it was in the USA before WW2 .I have seen a book that showed pictures of many of the hat stores that existed in Japan before the war. The Japanese were very big into hats. Two brands that were very popular back then for them were Knox and Borsalino . It would be very interesting to find one of these hats on Ebay .

Come to think of it, I can usually find a Borsalino in just about any hat shop in Tokyo. The problem is there are not many hat shops left now.

You'll notice that the shape of the japanese heads are primarily round oval or extra round oval and their hats being imported from other countries and being made for non asian clients when worn by the Japanese tend to droop on the side because of their head shape.

Those are some cool bashes!

Very interesting what other folks do to their bash. The cross is cool and the how about those tight lipped long bashes where the two sides touch in the middle....
