Should be fixed now.

My favorite Working Woman of the Era is my great aunt, who died last year at the age of 90. She had been the first female gas station attendant in our town, went on to become one of the first female longshoremen in the state, and spent much of her postwar life making shoes at the Waldo Shoe Company. She could out-smoke, out-yell, and out-swear any man she ever met, and took no guff from anybody at any time. If anybody tried to tell her she was supposed to be barefoot-and-pregnant, they wouldn't have walked out of the room. Well, they might have, but they'd have been bent over double.

She died the same day as Osama Bin Laden, and if there's any justice, she was one of his 24 Virgins.

Yes. The shootings and crimes that get reported on the news are few and far between. The police don't even answer a lot of the calls, yes it's THAT bad. If you are white, you can not walk through the south side at night. My wife worked down there and was told by the police, if your driving through this area and you accidentally hit someone you don't stop to help, drive to a police station and report it. In the 30's my mother took the train by herself downtown and walked to the Aragon every weekend, no one bothered you. When it was hot people slept down by the lake, no one bothered you. It is a LOT worse today, there are shootings, rapes, assaults, robberies constantly in the city, it is BAD. I've lived there, I know what Im talking about.

Wow! Note to self: NEVER go anywhere near Chicago. I didn't know places like that existed.

Chicago is a fantastic city and it would be a shame if you passed up a visit due to the hyperbolic rant of one person. Yes, it has areas that would be best to avoid but the same can be said about nearly all urban centers in the world.

Chicago is an amazing city. It is one of the friendliest cities you could visit. I found that people were very welcoming. The architecture is beautiful and the city is rightly proud of it.

Chicago IS an amazing city, when I wrote that the subject was racism and I was stating that there are areas of the city where you can not go. It doesn't mean the entire city, and I wouldn't consider that a hyperbolic rant Lyles. I try my best not to get personal with people unless they do with me, then I'll be more than glad to play that game...

Well Mr. Lyles, next time you decide to visit our lovely city have someone drop you off in Oldtown on a Saturday night, light yourself a cigarette and take a walk west. We'll talk when you come out on the other side ok?

Chicago is three times as deadly as NYC and twice as violent as LA

By AldenLoury, June 1, 2010 at 3:14 pm

Chicago's murder rate was nearly three times higher than New York City's last year, according to The Chicago Reporter's analysis of preliminary 2009 crime statistics, released late last month by the FBI. The rate of violent crime in Chicago was almost double the rates for both New York City and Los Angeles, according to the Reporter's analysis.

On May 24, 2010, the FBI released its preliminary annual uniform crime report for 2009. The report includes preliminary crime figures for more than 270 cities with a population of 100,000 or more. The Reporter analyzed the murder and violent crime statistics for those cities. Murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault and aggravated battery are considered violent crimes.

Chicago's murder rate, slightly more than 16 murders per 100,000 residents, ranked 30th, and its rate of violent crime--about 1,125 incidents per 100,000 residents--ranked 27th. However, among the nation's 10 largest cities, each with a population of one million or more, only Philadelphia had higher rates of murder and violent crime than Chicago. Furthermore, the FBI's violent crime total for Chicago did not include any of the city's 1,443 incidents of criminal sexual assault, which is a broader classification than the FBI's forcible rape category.

Want to educate yourself a little more Mr. Lyles, might want to glance at this before you take that walk.

An eye opener for sure. I'm staying in Hicksville and keeping the door locked and barred to make sure I don't have to shoot amybody. Maybe I can have my groceries delivered, during daylight.

That doesn't ask for your freedom first.
Capitalism shows that there is a good "ism".

I remember going to the National Amway convention in the "Spring" of 1982, and amazing the natives by asking the doorman at the hotel where a couple of rednecks could go get a quite beer. Apparently THEY thought it wasn't safe to talk to the Admiral at the door. We went three doors down, drank a few beers, noticing that a lot of the very well dressed when into a back room, and went back to the convention. We were asked to go visit a guy from Kankakee over spring break, we were just taken to the Amway convention.

I was also amazed at the LA suburb (forget which one) but the houses were older, but very nicely kept up. It was an obviously Hispanic neighborhood based on the paintings (Not graffiti) on the homes. When we got home, we found that we had been in the most likely place in LA to get shot. You can't judge a book by it's cover, I guess the gangbangers like nice homes too.

Later Y'all

One thing I always look for if I happen to be in the more dodgier parts of town are women, children and older people. When you don't see very many of them out and about, that is a major red flag.

Rockford, IL

Yea, If you take the nipple off the bottle you dodn't have to tip it so much to get all of the milk out before it cools off. Mom is better than the bottle. Gotta go get my milk fix...

Getting back on subject....So back in the 20's 30's Baby Bottles were not so popular and it looks like the trend is back. Surely womens clothing back then accomodated baby feeding.

BF babies are healthier, less colicky and I would venture to say that they may grow up to be healthier adults.
