Hi Kamikat-
I used a pair of my grandmother's old frames as my daily pair for a number of years. I just took them to my regular place to change out the prescription. I did have trouble with the earpieces finally getting brittle on mine though after about 2 years. I'm not sure how to keep these conditioned. Mine were metal cat eyes with a cushioned ear piece.

You'd look darling in them I'm sure.

Before I replaced them(they are still used as backups and in dusty environments) I went to a Wal-Mart and much to my surprise the folks replaced the earpieces. It was no big deal. Absolutely minimal cost. Or give lens crafters a try. Plastics always degas overr time and there is no way I know of to condition it.
Good luck.
(sorry, I didn't notice it was a powder room post until after I posted)

Merging into the Ultimate Glasses Thread.

(A relevant issue for me at the moment, since I broke my specs a couple days ago, and have been groping along with my twenty-year-old spares while the optician orders replacement parts for my frame. Something to watch out for if you wear a vintage/non-mainstream-off-the-shelf frame.)

Don't we have a thread about glasses somewhere? I couldn't find it.
It's time to get new glasses and I'm thinking about going with vintage frames this time. I came across a site that sell vintage NOS frames. Has anybody bought from them? Do vintage frames hold up under daily wear?

Yes! I bought from eyeglass boy a couple of months ago. They were ok. I'm not sure how frequently they update their site as the pair I purchased were actually out of stock (I chose another frame). They hold up fine so far. You might want to check ebay, there are a couple of shops that sell new old stock frames. The pic is of me wearing my new (old) frames.

I've been wearing vintage cat eyes (plastic frames) every day for the past three years, if that helps! Coincidentally, I recently bought two more pairs of vintage frames and am going to pick them up today. Maybe I'll post pictures later!

What a precious pic cherry lips!!!

I too have been wearing glasses since I was 11 yrs old. That's 25 yrs now. I believe I was in my early 20's when I found out that I have an astigmatism. I go back & forth with glasses & contacts, but I only wear contacts very occasionally. I had a pale pink pair in the 80's when Sally Jesse Raphael's red ones were popular. Anyone remember that? lol Mine weren't that big though.

I am really bored with my pair now and I've been wanting some cat eyes but I don't know if they'll look good on me because my face is so darn small. I am so jealous of you ladies and your gorgeous pics, you all look so great with your glasses!! Hope I can find some cute ones. Thanks for the links, btw :)

My husband likes me with my glasses more than without. I think I was wearing them when we met. He wears them now too, but only since he got shot by his eye. Lucky him, he hasn't had to wear them all his life.

I also noticed that my plastic pair has lasted longer than my metal frames. And I do take care of them!! Who knows, maybe it depends on the brand....

My very old eyeglasses broke over the bridge, in two!

I urgently needed a replacement, since my "backup" was extremely outdated in prescription, and I found these:

A bit droopy in this pic, it is the only close up I have by now.

I like them! but I would like to have another pair, so that this doesn't happen again. I just won a pair of vintage frames on Ebay, and I am watcing another pair closely. :D Luckly for me (because I love them), cat eye types are the most flattering for my face.

They are actually a mother-of-pearl-y black. I think they are cute. My BF says they look like something "and old lady would wear". It's got to be a very cool old lady.

I am still gonna wait for the second pair to compare, but, what do you think? are they good candidates to get my prescription glass on them?

I got cat-eye-ish glasses recently made by Calvin Klein. They're tortoise shell but the back of them is teal. I'll have to take a picture and show, but they are pretty cute!

These are a pair of the coolest glasses I've ever seen! They suit you, they make me drool, they're absolutely prescription material! It would be a sin not to wear them every day.

That is certainly positive :)

Are yours also a sort of mother-of-pearl? looks like it. They are cool.
