Going to NYC March 9th to the 14th as daughter is in a national moot court competition (Wagner Labor and Employment Law) at NYU. I have stayed at the Wellington and the room was nice, clean, but very small. Now, I dont need king's quarters since we spend little time in the room other than sleeping, but I would like something to relax in. A Day's Hotel was nice enough on 8th, but the window units got too loud, so that is out.

Found these:

found Hampton Inns Times North for $169 a night.
Belvedere for $111
Millinium for $184
The Moderne for $153

there is a special on the times 41 or something like that
wellington was like $159 a night
and there was an amsterdam hotel. all were 3 stars or better, so it was at
least equal to wellington. wellington had higher guest satisfaction rating then a few of them they said park central helmsley was not available but another helmsley hotel was new york helmsley near the chysler building for $137 a night.

Any ideas or comments?

Hey, Memphislawyer, I hope you found a satisfactory hotel room. Even tho I live here, I can't really provide any better info than a lot of online websites could provide (such as Virtual Tourist). But if you make it to NY, give us a heads up and maybe some of Gotham Loungers could hook up with you to quaff a few root beers or something.

We waited to long on the Belvedere and am staying at the Helmsley New York which is near Grand Central Station. Got it for around $130 a night, and with taxes, that ran $800.00 for 5 nights - not bad. We will be at NYU law school which they say is in Tribeca Thursday and Friday and Saturday if she wins out of the preliminary rounds.

'Splain the moot court competition thing a little more, sounds cool. NYU Law School is right at the bottom of Washington Square, the heart of Greenwich Village. There should be lots of great distractions for you, should you be so inclined.
Since the Helmsley is so close to Grand Central, you might think of having a meal the the great old Oyster Bar, on the bottom level of the station. It's one of my favorite restaurants in New York, and there have been a couple of Lounge meet ups there.
And, if you want some good off off broadway entertainment, yours truly will be appearing in the Theater 1010 production of Marc Blitzstein's 1937 classic musical "The Cradle Will Rock". That weekend will be our last 4 performances.

Dhermann, I'll be checking out that link. Since we do not know what our daughter's schedule is, Thursday and Friday are out. They have something up for Saturday at the Ice Rink, and I do not know if we are invited or not, but that could be fun. So Wednesday night (and maybe Tuesday if we get to the hotel by 7:00) are out nights. We have never done off-Broadway and may just run to TKTS for half-price tickets, and wife wants Lion King. We may check out Carolines since we have always walked by it and have seen Comedy Central things from there and, well, we have never been to a comedy club. Feel free to suggest other things in the evening to us.
