I'm adding this to my review, The name inside the hat is Fred Mazzulla, the hat was sold at a store called Denver Dry Goods. Out of curiosity I typed in Fred Mazzulla in Google and his name comes up repeatedly as an author of quite a number of books and he's from Denver. How about that.

Well my Stetson Nutria Quality hat came today. Here are a couple of pixs. It was open crown outa the box, the brim is very stiff but the crown had very little stiffner and was easy to shape. I put a diamond bash in the top with a front pinch with one minute of work. The hat looks like it was new old stock except it had a man's name stamped in the sweatband. But absolutely no signs of wear or previous shaping in the crown. It is a finely pounced felt with a very nice light brown color. A little darker than the pics show. I compared it to my Cavanagh 100 and the Cav is definitely softer to the touch, but the felt is very dense. It fits perfectly and has a 6 inch crown with a 3 inch brim, a little more cowboy than I'm used to. That's about all I can say about it, I have no idea as to how Stetson priced it, I checked under the sweatband and it had the Philly reorder label but no price tag.

Absolutely beautiful lid. Care to compare the felt to other Stetsons you may have?

Very nice.:eusa_clap

Truly impressive! Don't you just love it when you can bash it however you like, "with one minute of work?":eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

It's really hard to compare, but when I look at the pounce and touch the felt it's much like my Stetson Open Road 25, which I've always been very impressed with by the way.

In doing more research on the previous owner Fred Mazzulla, who it turns out was a prominent historian of the west and Colorado and a photographer. I like it when you find a hat who is connected to someone you can actually find out something about.

That hat looks terrific, fedoralover! Great initial bash, too.

I found a business card in the sweatband of one of the hats I bought. I thought that was pretty cool, but yours goes one better!

Enjoy!

Thanks guys, to be honest I was considering having Art change the ribbon to a wider one, but now that I know it has a name attached to it, I'm going to leave it original. The hat was sold at the Denver Dry Goods store, here's a pic I found of the store from a while back.

He probably ordered it as a back up hat that he never got around to wearing. It's great you have the store picture and the owner's name. Oh, and the hat ain't bad, either!

Take a close look at that ribbon.
If it's like the one on my 30s Number One Quality,
it's a very nice silk unlike anything you see today.

My Nutria Quality was missing its ribbon when I got it.
That's why I had Optimo put one on.
