Hey Red! No way I can top the suit. I went with a guayabera I picked up in Ecuador in the last year or two and some brown dress slacks.

But I do love this hat, and what a day! The sun's out and temps are up a bit... a really beautiful day in the NW, and a great reason to beat the spring equinox with the Silverbelly/Old Copper fedora from our good man and hatter, Mike Miller, at The NW Hat Co in Eugene, Oregon.

MrsFed won't take pictures unless she gets me to smile on one of them, which she uses as a screen saver on her phone. The subsequent photos show off the hat, ribbon and bow. Specs are 5-1/2 open crown, teardrop crease, bound dimensional edge brim with matching ribbon to the felt (2-1/2" front/back; 2-3/8" on the sides). I love the top view best on a sweet diamond crease, I like a clean center crease on a tall crown, blocky hat, but the side view that a raking teardrop crease bestows on the side view of a fedora is just sweet apricot-honey notes on a vintage French Sauternes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sauternes_(wine)

I meant to post, again, the inspiration for the "double-winged" bow on my hat. Alan, @alanfgag posted a picture of his vintage Vanzina and my eyes just locked on to the bow treatment. When Mike emailed me saying my hat was up on the block I started to review literally hundreds of hats and the 9 or 10 ribbon colors Mike sent. Emailing back and forth, I was afraid Mike would burn out on me, ha! But no doing.

Here's Alan with the stunning Vanzina. I told Mike not to copy it, but to do something resembling the double "wings" on both sides of the bow. The knot on the bow came down to Mike's decision and I couldn't be more pleased. I've only seen this knot on two of his other hats and I think he did the best job on my hat versus the other two.

A huge thank you to Alan for posting such remarkable hats all the time. And thanks again to Mike for the execution of the bow and knot. Notice the flare on the Vanzina and the visible stitching. Very cool, but I asked Mike not to copy that part for my hat.

And the side shot Mike sent to me that had my blood pressure rocketing.

Thanks a bunch, Roger! I'm really enjoying this one. Funny thing, when I bought the shirt I thought it was a light tan color. When I wore it to the office for the first time someone pointed out that it's more of a light peach color... serendipity!

Made a pilgrimage south to Mike Miller today. The next in a series of Oregon State commemorative hats is in the queue. The "Slats Gill" will be a 1935 Playboy clone. The image we are working from suggests a lighter felt color, so I'm going with Sand. A taller 5 3/4" crown height and the narrow looking brim width. We decided it could have been 2 1/4 based on the image. I'm not sure I can pull of Slat's hollywood brim treatment, but it is what the image shows. Mike is going to finish the inside of the hat without a liner, another feature I have seen on some of the Air Light Playboys displayed here on the lounge. The crease will try to approximate the rumpled look of the hat. Looking forward to this one, the 150th anniversary of the university will be kicking off in October and this and my other Beaver (OSU) hats will be seen in many venues.

I think what you're doing is awesome, Red! I love the history you include with your custom OSU memorial hats. I was thinking, too, that Sand or Sahara might be a good color for the felt. I was thinking the brim was about 2" so our thinking is pretty much the same. I bet Mike can crease the new Slats Gill hat to resemble the special bash Mr. Gill put on his personal lid.

Kudos, Red, I'm excited for you on this one! A Playboy is a style I have yet to acquire... you've got me thinking now about it.
