This showed up today. Montecristi / Granite combo Duplex. It has a 1/2" over welt with 5 rows of stitching. The ribbon looks even better than I thought it would.

First time wearing my Montecristi/Granite Beaver Duplex. Mike told me he used a beaver hood because he hat one that had a flaw in the crown.

Wonderful 'Berg my friend. The folded over gill treatment is now my absolute favorite. Mike developed the style as an experiment on my Lt. Blue Duplex a while back. He liked it so much that he has added it to his offerings. He does try out some pretty wild stuff on my commissions, and for some reason, they end up on his website/options. Search "Olcott" on his website, it was a special commemorative he made for me, now it is there for everyone! Love, love, love this one!!

Conjures up images of a boater crossed with panama. In a good way! The weave is eye catching.

Amazing how the body takes such a familiar hat shape under expert hands. The ribbon treatment is ooo-la-la!

@Tukwila I was just waiting for it to arrive before expounding on this straw. Well it just arrived about 30 minutes ago. First off, the color is much more vibrant in person. Also, it is much softer/flexible than I thought it would be. It has a combination weave. What I mean is some parts are what I think of as a standard Panama. Other parts (which are obviously more pronounced) are two strips twisted. I like the pattern - it has an elevated look. The brim is 2 3/4" and the crown as bashed is 4" both front and back. The 1 1/8" ribbon is one I supplied. Mike and I discussed it and decided to go with a basic bow so as not to distract from the weave pattern.

Mike and his supplier believe this is the first of it's kind in the USA. It may be the first in North America. Apparently his buyer saw one in Ecuador and took a picture. He showed the picture to Mike. Mike told him he was interested so the buyer found the one weaver who was doing this. Mike now has about a dozen of these in toast and natural. At least that is what I was told about the origin of this hat.

My latest from Northwest Hats. It is actually a Montecristi optimo I bought from Art. I had Art send it directly to Mike to re-block and change the ribbon to this one that I supplied. It has a 2 3/4" brim and the green/cream ribbon is 1 5/8." I had Mike do this "Gatsby" (Brent Black) style. I really like the look of the ridge in the crown.
