I've just received my first purchase (a Marine in blue) from North Sea Clothing - they've got a sale on so lots of stuff half price - still pricey at £75 for a jumper but great quality and a nice snug fit with plenty of stretch built in and I'm really pleased with the sleeve and body length. I particularly like the shawl collar which doesn't itch like roll necks do.

I'll post a couple of fit pics in a while - got back from holiday in Cornwall yesterday so still unpacking. Rob

Sounds like you have a good deal with that purchase, I just had a look at their website and they have some great looking sweaters there. I will have a closer look at their woollen pullovers, not keen on the cotton versions though.)

Thanks. Seems like pretty short sleeves for the size. Is that with the cuffs turned back or not?

It's the full length on a brand new sweater unworn, unturned and unstretched, - remember they're knitted so they naturally stretch out longer when your arm is inside, unlike leather jacket sleeves. If you're worried they are too short for you then email North Sea and ask them- they responded to one of my messages within a few hours and it was a Sunday.

Sounds still extremely short. The cuffs are intended to be turned back, so at least 2" less. I like their stuff, but I couldn't wear it. I would need a size 40 with 27" sleeves. I don't see that happening even with wetting and stretching the sleeves.

Hmmm- Rudie I think you'll be fine. Its a brand new cable knit sweater with loads of natural elasticity I can easily extend the sleeve length to 30" with no effort. I order my Aero jackets with a 26" sleeve and I can roll back the cuffs on this sweater - as in the pics- As I suggested above don't just rely on my advice (my advice is for taking or leaving no worries), raise your concerns with North Sea. For example they suggest on their site that you might like to size up if you want to layer up.

There was an interesting item on the BBC Radio 2, Simon Mayo evening programme last night, 09 September, about 20 -25 mins from the start of the show, all about the history of the roll neck/polo neck/turtle neck sweater. I am sure it can be heard again by logging onto the show's website. (The man that was being interviewed was a historian of films & TV and the fashions on these mediums.)
