Nine Lives rider's jacket

Eh, I can't say I like it... It's a bit basic which isn't always a bad thing but for €2150, I want something a bit more interesting. It's flat. Boring. Maybe it's the leather which is too flat plus it seems like it's got really short sleeves. And I absolutely hate those zipper pulls! They're like a staple of a cheapo to me.

Really stupid price for an imported jacket with cheap hardware, in any case.

I LOVE some of the shirts and other items that Nine Lives makes, but this jacket is a little boring for my taste. Also, the leather looks a little dull.

Like Monitor said, the sleeves are too short, in relation to the body of the jacket. If you got it big enough for the sleeves to fit, the body would hang on you like an empty cardboard refrigerator box... and if you got the body to fit, the sleeves would be four inches above you wrist.

For cafe racer, it sure is a boxy fit - look at the back shot.

Also, double slider zippers are unnecessary on a short waisted jacket like this.

Pros- I’m liking the spread collar, the offset zip design, and the initial simplicity of the cut. It takes a lot of guts to make a simple jacket without a lot of front embellishments.

Cons- I’m not liking the seams bisecting the front pockets, don’t like the back angled shoulder seams at all. Arms are way too short, the front pocket angles look wrong, zippers look cheap, and the leather looks plasticky…Yak leather? Really? Only if it comes with an extra tin of Yak butter and a Tibetan sherpa to apply it every few months. What’s next- Howler Monkey hide?

Seriously, for that price I’d rather toss my hard earned cash at a beautifully made custom Himel.

Micro suede liner? Jeez... I don't hate it although the back is a bit weak and bitsy. I really like the offset zip and collar too. It might look good in a few years although the micro liner is bound to be a mess and stink of sweat by then as polyester really hangs onto smells. The price is silly.

The first thing that popped into my head when I saw this was the Taylor Stitch Moto jacket (made for them by Golden Bear in San Francisco). I like the overall simplicity and clean lines, but not the price...

I guess they are trying to justify the price by the 'Made in Japan' tag. And as always, they are not targeting us here as potential buyers anyway. And it is really quite fascinating they even use YKK zips on such a 'premium' jacket, very patriotic though..... Sure they are aware that Lewis is just next door and Real McCoy is just 15min walk from their shop?

There is no function to the form. Its too baggy for how short everything is. Its definately moto style, not a riding jacket. At 2150 its definately not a bargain. There are alot of things id buy before that guy.

Nine Lives makes quality stuff, but this jacket is overpriced. for a similar, but better style, i heavily favor the Lewis Leathers Corsair. With the right retailer, you can have the jacket custom sized and eliminate whether length is too long or short. I am also biased as I just received my Lewis Corsair and it's amazing.

Setting aside the price - which is simply over and above what I'd be prepared to pay for any jacket, from any maker, but someone must or they wouldn't have it priced like that (hey, if they have people prepared to pay GBP250 for a Henley style undershirt, it's not unimaginable) - I find it interesting. I quityel ike the shny hide, though I wouldl ike to see how t breaks in too. It's a very simple design and cut, which quite appeals: this is the sort of style I could inagine really showcasing a very characterful leather that might look a bit much on a more detailed jacket. I quite like the offset-zip as an idea - reminiscent of the B15 / B15A. Otherwise, it puts me in mind of a much-simplified zip-sleeve Highwayman type. Different enough to stand out from what we see from a lot of other makers, yet without being 'different for the sake of it ugly' (the pitfall most Nigel Cabourn stuff falls into for me). I'd certainly have a look round their store if there is one in town, though I suspect it would be very much in the same manner as RmCs: lovely to look at, but I'ds never sseriously consder buying at the prices they have on them.

I don't like the upper back diagonal yoke thing, and how the sleeve is mounted to the body you see those creases on the upper arm like a shirt's sleeve, jacket sleeve should hang cleaner around the bicep imo. I have no problem with YKK it's a quality zipper dependable easy to find replacement , but since it is priced that way, it should have been a riri.
