They are the best made in Ireland FWIW I hear.

Wow, I always thought that distinction went to Hannah? Thanks, Cookie! I appreciate your response! When the cap arrives I'll try to give a review. In the meantime, here are some photos from the seller...

One minor yet inexplicable difference between vintage 1920s-'30s caps and modern ones is the size of their crown button. Vintage caps had a small button; modern caps have a larger one.

Small button on vintage cap:

Regarding the impermeability question, which I think has been correctly addressed, I would just add that some caps are lined with some waterproof material. This could solve the rain problem, but I am not sure it would not make the cap too hot, too.

Would anyone share his opinion, or better still, his experience, with waterproof-lined caps?

Marc, another great thread. Thanks! I'm a 7 1/4 so it looks like I'm outta luck on this:(

Anyone find it's best to go up in size with caps to allow for any shrinking that may occur . Seems my wool 8 panel needs a bit of stretching every so often.

Being slightly larger than a 6 7/8, I'll take you up on that one. PM me with the details:D

This cap came in the mail yesterday. From the 1920s.

Marc is truly amazing. People from the 1920's send him hats through the mail. Is that like the US Postal Service Time Machine? lol

Here's a portion of a picture of some of my long lost relatives taken in Northern Pennsylvania in the 20's. Nice cap on the tall young man!

I just got back from a large flea market in upstate NY where I picked up a great cap. The booth was run by an elderly Russian couple. It took me a few minutes to realize that they were the hatmakers themselves. There were no labels in the hats, just handwritten pieces of paper with the sizes sewn inside. Under the sweatbands, were rings of Russian newspaper. They had some great hats too! The one I picked up is a substantial wool number for only $12.
In the middle of a sweaty, dirty flea market, I felt like I really stumbled across a piece of Old World greatness.
I'll post some pics of the cap soon!

I got this one later in last year's season, too late to see much use, but now with the cooler temperatures creeping in, it is going to see light again!

It is a Stetson Hatteras, made of silk:

It is a medium-to-light weight material, appropriate for spring/autumn. I see it as a casual alternative to the more classic 8-panels.

"Hat People" made this last week for me, it's their Linen Full Cut.

I would dare say, it is me, or are those two caps in your latest two pics noticeably different in style sizing? Even accounting that they may be made of different materials, which could drape differently, the linen cap looks fuller cut than the other one you posted earlier - although they are both Full Cut.

I like better the linen one, BTW, but I am biased to fuller cuts.
