New (Vintage) Champ

I don't buy a lot on Ebay anymore, especially not hats, but my brother bought me this little number using buy it now. It's a very light minty green champ with a 5 1/2 inch crown and a 2 inch brim.

It's a soft fuzzy felt with some slight moth damage to the underside of the brim. The pics, if they work, don't show the colour overly well, and 2 inch the ribbon is green, not black.

It needs a cleaning, so when I have some cash I'll have that taken care of.

That is a very early Champ Hat from the 1940's . Most of the Champ Hats on Ebay are the stiffer ones produced during the 1960's . A nice find !!!

Hi Besdor,

The shape, the height of the crown with a short brim, made me think this was probably from the 30s. Can you tell me a little about Champ history so I can place the hat better, as I'm not very familiar with them.

And can anyone hazard a guess as to how popular a wintergreen chapeau would have been, and to whom who would it have appealed?
