Have been looking online for info on what Stetson's Silk Finish is, with not much success.
Does it mean it has a silk like feel, or is there silk in the felt? Wonder how the silk finish holds up to the weather? Also how does it differ from the Excellent Quality felt?
If anyone out there owns a Stetson silk finish hat ,I would be very interested in hearing your comments on this product.

Sorry if it sounds like a bit of a rant but I just want to know what I am considering buying and trying to get as much info as possible.

Generally, the nap of the surface fur is slightly longer, yet evenly cropped, like a lawn freshly mowed at the highest setting on the mower. Casmere or velvet finish is shorter yet, and the peluche is much longer nap (more likely to be a little uneven instead of cropped). Tough part is that the only hatters that actually know the answer to this question are reluctant to explain it, I think the manufacturers would prefer that we not know for certain. The silk finish, brushed, will reflect light better, so it will have a little bit of shine, and it will feel slicker. No silk fibers in the felt at all, the word silk is used as an adjective to describe the look and feel of fur felt finished in a 'silk' finish.

Hi barrowjh, and thanks for the information and description. Sounds like a more luxurious finish.I like the idea of a bit more shine!

That was my best semi-educated guess until someone more knowledgable chimes in. A silk finish should be a more luxurious feel than sanded (pounced) finishes.

The Firenze that we carry from Stetson is silk finish. The nap is lifted ever so slightly. The hat almost shimmers in the sunlight it is very nice.

I don't think anyone has the Absinthe right now. JJ Hats said they won't get it at all. Not sure why. I've been meaning to check with Jeff as Delmonico's. See if he'll get me one whenever they come out.

I have not seen it yet and most likely will not for a couple of more weeks. I can order one for you at any time. Most of us are not putting in big felt order because the season is almost over. We will put one in soon for delivery spread out over July and August. My straw hats are starting to show up now.

I'm considering an Absinthe. However it comes in Sage. Anyone have a sage stetson? I have tried looking on Google but two images can look quite different.
I have a BG Campdraft and would probably not consider the Sage if it was too similar to the Campdraft.
