Really?
Y'know the young actor who played Picard's clone in ST:Nemesis was also in Band of Brothers.

You know... when Picard was his clone's age he had a full head of hair...

I'm sure that just got garbled. They'll definitely play Amanda as a human. I am more disturbed that Ryder is only 9 older than Quinto: unless she is only to appear in his flashbacks to his childhood with a different actor, it's gonna be tough to accept her as his mother.

That said, there is NOTHING I've heard about the film thus far that gives me any hope for it. As I've said here before, they have no interest in making a picture for original-fans-from-9/8/66 like myself, and they're pitching it at today's youth, who have only a slight acquaintance with pre-TNG or pre-ENT Trek.

Oh, I'll be there on opening day, but I expect to feel like I did after Superman Returns - that the film didn't really respect the older (pre-Reeve films) mythos or take the story in a direction that interested me. Geezers like me aren't really the target audience, even though today's entire SF/comics-derived blockbuster film industry wouldn't exist without us.

(I have slightly more hope for the Indiana Jones flick, because all the original creators are still in control, not youngsters raised on 80s films/shows.)

I think Bruce Greenwood's a pretty good actor and would make a fine Capt. Pike... EXCEPT HE'S TOO OLD.

Greenwood is currently 51.

Jeffrey Hunter was only 40 when the Trek Pilot was aired (so he could've been as young as 39 when they shot it).

I'm willing to suspend some disbelief when watching a movie, but come on.

Another aspect of the project is that they are redesigning the original Enterprise. The design picked by Abrams and Paramount has yet to surface, but what *has* been revealed is this - a rejected proposal for the new old Enterprise.

I actually quite like it. Apparently, the goal was to bridge the gap between the original TV series ship and the refit from the movies. I think it's pretty cool, myself. Shame this isn't the one they're going to use.

Repeat, just to be sure: this is NOT the new Enterprise. It could have been, but was rejected by Paramount. Abrams is going with a different design.

I don't understand why they can't go the same route as the Remastered project. Just add some surface detail. That's all. Honestly, it looks like a sorry attempt to justify the bad art production from Enterprise that made everything look newer than TOS. Additionally, we've seen the original Enterprise in DS9... it's the way it is from the original series! Messing with it by putting lights and whatnot on it is just silly and without justification. I'm glad they didn't pick that one, and I hope Abrams picks one much, much closer to the look of the original series.

Aww. Well I'd buy you a ticket if you were here.

I'll add to my previous statement that I don't mind things like that increased detail in the spinning engine lights, or the more detailed hull plating. Slight changes like that add to the sense of scale immensely. But the new colourations and the silly amount of lights (which only came with the new ships circa the motion picture era from what we all understand) coupled with the new shapes and proportions are just too much. You don't mess with the shape and colour of the Enterprise. Period.

Redesigned shuttlecraft that went along with it, and which presumably was rejected for another redesign proposal along with the Enterprise:

Yep, still glad it was rejected. :)

I dunno, I think it looks fine. *If you're going to redesign the Enterprise,* that's not a bad look. It bridges the gap to the refit ship and the -A pretty nicely and adds some TNG touches like the blue glow from the nacelles.
