do you ever see a hat somewhere you just can't leave behind no matter how many sizes away from fitting it is?

I recently picked up the gorgeous Adam at an antique store in Hanover, PA. It's an Adam Premier Executive in a "chrome" color. Size seven. The tag in it reads "Adam- Premier Executive- $8.95- This outstanding hat is a product of the finest imported fur felt and the pride of america's master hat makers"
Embossed in the sweatband "Aqua shed treated for water repelency"
The band is "cushioned for head comfort"
The hat has a bound edge and a teardrop crown. Interesting ribbon. Looks almost like standard gossgrain, but it's staggered in three rows.

The hat was in its original box, and still wrapped in tissue paper with the adam top hat logo reading Adam- first name in hats. Original box with price tag.

original price written on outside of box as well as on tag in hat.

I's never been worn I'd wager.

also in that shop was a very ineresting stetson hatbox. Anybody heard of this setup? Triangular with rounded edges, done in a herringbone-ish paper/ fabric? red stripes. stetson logo on top. I would've bought it, it was under ten bucks, but It was in really bad shape. Does anyone have a picture of this kind of thing, or a guess as to the kind of hat that would've gone in it?

I have passed up beautiful vintage hats in stores because of the size. I always regret doing so knowing it would never fit. But I regret it... [huh]

I would have snapped it up, too, Dinerman, provided the price was within reason. At the very least, it'll make good barter material.
Can't a competent hatter size up a hat quite a bit? Sure, you'd sacrifice some brim width, but that one looks to have enough to spare.
Do you mind saying how much it set you back? And just how tight it is?

Sounds like the stetson 3 way box. Tony in Tarzana recently posted on this subject somewhere around this forum.

Did it say "Stetson Three-Way" on the side? Like this:

This is the one my Whippet Three-Way came in. Unfortunately somebody cut the strap off and it's missing the inner structure.

well- it set be back 12 bucks. not bad, huh?
great store. I found the steteson box- no hat (aargh) I found a knox fifteen box- no hat (aargh). She had this one behind the counter, and I just couldn't say no.

oh- it's tight. I wear 7 and a quarter. It's only a seven.

I really love the hat, but it just seems too nice to have anything done to it. The brim is perfect. It doesn't even look like it's ever been snammed down.

and the ribbon looks so cool in person.

Thanks for the pics of the stetson box. THat's exactly what she had, but it was in tatters. Inside structure was there though.
