Now I’m having problems with my account on google that is interfering with tapatalk!![emoji35][emoji35][emoji35]. Thanks for all you’ve tried to help me with though. You guys are great. Hope to get this ironed out soon. I’ll post all my hats when... I get a clue. I have been messing with fedoras since I was 14 and have made it to 54 and have collected a small but nice collection of vintage only fedoras. About fifteen sweet hats ranging from a mint 1910 Stetson bowler to nothing newer than 50’s lids that actually fit my head. I have around thirty that do not. The ones that I will always keep are mostly wide brimmed hats: Stratoliner, st. Regis, OR, playboy and Dobbs westwards, etc. the others I use for donator hats or test mules for repairs or giveaways to friends... but those are all undesirables called late model stingies. [emoji1786]. Sorry if I offended trilby lovers here at the lounge, but I only like 2 1/4 brims and larger. I like to repair and restore my hats only. I have no desire to get in a biz that true hatters occupy. Optimo has nothing to fear from me. [emoji16]. But I think you guys will like what I have done lately.
Of course, I’ll admit That I ruined some 70’s trilbys and even a couple decent hats along the way. [emoji26][emoji2955][emoji14]
Hope I can get my problems solved and get back with you guys... in the mean time I’ll be reading along with what you all have been writing and will write.

Here is how I post a pic from Tapatalk on an iPhone 10.

I click on the reply-to-thread icon at the lower right (orange arrow):

ee828882380a92ae63ff8faffa8b9fdb.jpg

Enter any text I want to post.

Then I click on the retrieve-photos-from-my-stored-images icon (looks like mountains in a photo):

793c36e9b51fc27d5b3581101346fed2.jpg

This brings up photos stored on my phone:

147db38cc57dc97f461b5b9c0f1be938.jpg

Then I click on the one I want (since I don’t have the paid version of Tapatalk I can only do one at a time):

4755cbdf1e27f78c7a8cd7a741cb374f.jpg

Then Tapatalk will let me know how that upload is coming along:

e8781366feb012e6a5354755c22032fa.jpg

It will be displayed in code with image-tags around it:

181410d772bbd1e4e7701d3733a9f2d2.jpg

Then I unclick the option that advertises for Tapatalk (but that is not required):

b3f191a0824a7768865164a90b088d98.jpg

Then hit “Reply” in the upper right corner.

Hope that helps a bit. Looking forward to seeing your hats!

I have the pay version of Tapatalk and I can still only do one photo at a time. Hmmm.

Otherwise, I do find the Tapatalk app easy to use and highly recommended it.

Welcome everyone, a great bunch of guys here and tons to learn and share.

I've several other hobbies and interests that might be at home here (vintage fountain pens, for instance?), but that should do for now. Off to ask a question or three about my "new" Resistol.

Nice to see another vintage fountain pen enthusiast. I didn’t really see a thread for them, but posted one of mine here if you want to post a few:

I should take some photos. I have a number of Parkers, Eversharps, Shaeffers, Esterbrooks, and others. I love celluloid; it has a feel and inner light that is not duplicated by modern resins. I think my favorite visually is a '30s Parker Vacumatic in emerald green. The stripes, shine, and sparkle always evoked for me a city skyline at night. I also love Dreyfus's deco design of the Eversharp Skyline, very much like his design of the Twentieth Century Limited locomotive. Certain of the Shaeffers also have a wonderful elegance, combined with the weirdly complex but appealing filling mechanisms. My favorite "every day" pen, though, is an early '60s Parker "51" Special, though it desperately needs a cleaning at the moment. At work, where I don't want to leave my nicer pens, for proofreading I use a Parker 21 that's almost as good as the "51," filled with Waterman red ink, and a cheap Parker Vector for other marking. I also have at home a couple of "51" desk sets with the Magnetix base designed by Moholy-Nagy. Unfortunately those, too, need cleaning. I picked up a salad spinner to convert for cleaning use, but my partner grabbed it for--gasp--salad before I could modify it. My first "real" fountain pen (as opposed to the cheap Shaeffer cartridge pens that could still be bought at pharmacies when I was in high school) was a black Esterbrook imprinted "Bell Telephone" that I found in my parents' kitchen junk drawer. (Both my mom and my grandfather had worked for Southern New England Telephone.)

Hello everyone, another new guy here. I’ve been lurking for a couple of months, but now I’m teaching myself Tapatalk.

I’ve had several western hats over the years but never cared for the way they look on me. I tried on a new Stratoliner about two months ago and now my wife thinks I might have a problem.

I really enjoy the pictures of all the different styles from vintage to modern along with the knowledge base that covers almost everything. I’ll post pictures of my hats in the appropriate threads as I can. Thank you. Craig

I found an older Carhartt chore coat for dirty work at a local thrift store a while back. Was informed by a well traveled church member what SNET was.

My grandfather worked for SNET in New Haven for more than forty years. He retired in the 1970s, I believe. I never saw him in any company-branded clothing (he worked in an office rather than field work), but I do have an old Esterbrook fountain pen imprinted as being property of the Bell System.

Having never been to the northeast, I wasn’t familiar with it until a deacon noticed it while I was delivering rock at his house. Our pastor’s wife is from Rhode Island, she has to speak slowly to us Okies for us to get it sometimes[emoji58]

Another Smelly Newbie here.

Many years ago I used to walk past NYC's oldest hat store on a daily basis and eventually got suckered in and came out with a beautiful Stetson bowler.
Pleased as punch with my purchase I went into a deli, picked up a bottle of Guiness Stout, a hard boiled egg and a copy of the NY Times and went down to Washington Square Park to read the paper and have lunch.
I open my beer and start to see what craziness is going on in the world at large and I feel a TAP! on top of my hat.
Looking up, what do I see but a pigeon's ass right above me.
Where is a shotgun when you need it?

My hat collection got destroyed in a flood many years ago and due to a recent heart attack I've been put on blood thinners and can now feel the cold like everyone else. Time to buy a hat (or 15).
Here's one I picked up on CraigsList which was owned by a Scottish gentleman who would only take it out on special occasions like when he wore his kilt.
It's a Lock & Co. Town Coke hat in perfect shape with the box.

There are very few people in this area (Central Pennsyltucky, USA) wearing real hats these days so it's time to class the place up a bit.

So far, no pigeon damage.
P.S.
I named my first Burmese Python, back in the late 70s, "Frunobulax" because I knew how big that little guy curled up in my hand was going to get!

Welcome Steve. Sounds like we have the love of Herpetology in common. I had tons of reptiles and amphibians in my younger days, including a 14’ Burmese and a mean as hell Retic. The Burmese was a favorite and we used to take him out to parks for people to enjoy. I actually contemplated being a Herpetologist when starting College.

My 7 yo granddaughter is showing interest, so I’ve been thinking of finding her a Scarlet Kingsnake.

Welcome aboard, this is a great place to share and learn about all kind of things, not just hats.
