Hey me too! Hard to just dip your toe though... I just started wearing decent hats a month or two ago and I'm finding myself a few hundred dollars down;)
I've liked them for awhile, and have always just worn ball caps. Decided to grab a neutral color one that matches a jacket I own so I can see if I like wearing it before investing in a nicer hat or a collection

Well? Your pic looks great... You liking the hat?

I can't believe it's taken so long for me to get out of the baseball caps... But I'm pretty sure I'm not going back!

so far so good , it's a little self conscious at times but I'm enjoying it. If I can get the wife on board I'll be set, if she puts up resistance than I fear the fedora might have the same ending as my quest for a beard lol

Wear a fedora with pride, don't be self conscious. Develop a look and go with it. Spend time reading the various postings on this forum, and you will be well on your way in no time. Welcome to the Fray.

when cant i start making my own posts? I cant find any forum discussing it.

Go to the forum you want the post to appear in (e.g., "Hats"). Just to the right of the trail banner (Home >>Forums>>Apparel), you'll see a button "Post New Thread."

Post the new thread. I would ask you to do a good search, however, to see if there isn't already a thread discussing your subject. Chances are, your topic may have been covered. Even if you revive a dusty old thread, it's worth it because it may educate the rest of us.

I'll add that searching whatever the topic is via google putting the words Fedora Lounge in your search will be more fruitful than the sites own search engine

I'm another newbie/former lurker. Although I've learned a lot watching, I could use some guidance on converting a Resistol 3X that I lucked into recently for $10. Is the first step to remove the sweatband, ribbon and liner before cleaning?

You really don't need to remove a thing. Soak the entire hat in Coleman fuel or Naptha, do it outside, use a metal container with lid if you have one. If not a plastic Tupper ware type with lid. Just do it away from your house, let it sit a few hours or overnight. If conditions are right outside, when you remove the, let excess drain into the soak, tank. The body will evaporate fumes off, and be dry in a few hours max. If you plan to do a fedora conversion, and you intend to put a new sweatband in it, then strip it. If not, and you just want a cleaned up hat, soak the entire thing. You may need 2 or 3 gallons, and proper size vessle. Get a funnel, and save the fuel for another day, another hat cleaning.

Good advice.
