I beg to differ. You will see that most of us wear fedoras with most modes of dress. From formal attire, suits, casual slacks, shorts and t-shirts, etc. As you get more confident wearing a hat (fedora), you will find yourself donning your hat no matter what the occasion or mode of dress.

Well, maybe not with Speedos, but you get my drift! ;)
...you're tempting me.

I went to the Goorin Bro hat store today. Most of their hats were wool blends or 100% wool. Some were very nice. They also size their hats S,M,L etc. They sell a lot of size reducing strips to help get the hat to fit right. Ended up buying an Ecudorian "Panama" fedora from them. It is roll-able, which will help when I travel.

What can someone tell me about "trolley cable" bands? My Borsa came with a thin elastic band with a button on it hidden by the crown ribbon. Is it just a fashion hold-over from years ago?

Wind trolleys are functional accessories that use to come on many hats. To use, you take it off the crown, place the button through your lapel hole or similar. When the wind takes your hat off your head, it will only fly so far before being stopped by the cord, so you don't lose your hat. The button has a loop on the end. You pull the string through the loop to make a lasso and wrap it around the crown of your hat for "storage."

I think we may have a thread on them somewhere, but I'm on my phone and searching is cumbersome.

Sent directly from my mind to yours.

Hello all, I would like some help choosing a fedora for the wife. Can any of you offer any suggestions? I was always a baseball cap guy until I saw some gentlemen wearing fedoras on the singleaction forum. I found my way here and I am now hooked. I purchased a Stetson Weekend hat in walnut. I wear it everytime I go outside, I love it. I will undoubtedly purchase another then another but first a hat for the wife.

Hey man, welcome! I'm thinking I was one of those guys. I'm dougader on that forum.

For custom hats, check out the thread for Esther Weiss Millinery the other hatters that have threads here.

Fedoras can be unisex items, so fit can be the main thing to know. But there are fedoras made especially for women. I ordered a cloche hat for my wife's Christmas present. That's another cool style.

Here my wife is wearing a 50's Cavanagh that I got off ebay for myself... but it was too small. My loss is her gain.

Thanks for the advice Fed I will follow up and see if I can include the wife in "our" new addiction. Yes your pics were the prime instigator of my need to cover up in style. The firearm addiction has been going on for 40 years so she is used to that sickness.
The Cavanagh is a sharp looking hat but then again your wife might be cause of that, my compliments.

Welcome to the Fray. I think that involving the wife in this hobby is stellar. Chicks look great in a classic fedora! And, as others have said, Esther Weiss Millinery is your go to for a beautiful hat especially for your wife. She also posts her creations almost daily on the What Hat Are You Wearing Today thread. Lots of great ideas there.

Based on my experience with my attempts to "involve" my wife in the world of fedoras I would urge caution. Rather than buying her something on spec as a gift, if you have one available nearby, take her to a hat shop and let her choose. After my multiple failed attempts at Ebay purchases, either style, colour, or fit we visited a hat shop, she found one she loves and she loves it and wears it.
