New Eastman Leather Clothing "Escape" A-2

The ELC jacket looks beautiful to me.
And metal Capt. rank was worn under the collar! I've never seen that. Interesting! A nice, subtle detail.
I think the price reflects the extra work involved and that finish sets it apart from all the others out there. I don't think I'd go with a V. Hiltz name tag - but I do love the finish! It'll be the jacket I most want to see the next time I'm at RAF Duxford!

I would probably never get a "movie jacket", but this one is really quite nice. The hand finished look makes it look a bit more authentic and less like someone just sanded a new jacket.

It's been awhile since I've seen the movie. Did Hilts have captains bars under his collar?

This wasn't uncommon practice on fatigues to keep the enemy from seeing that bit of sniper-bait. Up until the Marines finally gave in to subdued rank in the field (early 2000s), we used to flip our collar rank as well.

Why an airman would have done it on a jacket that already had non-shiny rank on the shoulders is curious. Maybe just a little touch of bling for the movie?

At the time I doubt it would have mattered, they wanted the look and pretty well got it right for that period in film making history. Were there that many nit pickers then? Sometimes things are so obvious such as vehicles that were of a far later later vintage (The Triumph in 'Escape'), The RM London buses rather than the more historically accurate RT and Leyland Titan in many WWII movies etc that sometimes the story can carry the film so we don't really sit there thinking; "This would have been a great film except for those Messerschmidt 109s (The Hispano Aviación HA-1112-M1L Buchón)" As one may watching the 1969 film Battle of Britain.
Maybe there is something to CGI in historical films. Personally I would rather see the dodgy Spanish ME 109s, but thats just me remembering Pearl Harbour and it's Star Wars P40s

I'm watching "The Great Escape" at my local cinema in 4K this Friday for just 6€ the ticket. It's a shame I won't be able to take pictures but I'm looking forward to enjoy the king of cool with his A-2 jacket.

I think Kojax meant HPA won't be offering this A-2 and Eastman will be the only source for purchasing this style in the world. It seems that after making several of these A-2’s and realizing just how time consuming they are, and factoring in that Gary Eastman personally performs the dye and aging work, they cannot provide a wholesale price to others such as ourselves.

This new info. is not a total surprise since I personally applied the top coat of dye to a limited-edition Buzz Rickson’s A-2 a few years ago that we called the “Cooler King” and that was very time consuming. What may transpire when I have more time this summer is to offer a re-dyed Eastman Rough Wear 1401 or 27752, which will not be marketed as an “Escape A-2” but just a re-dyed classic with vintage wear hand applied that matches an original re-dyed Rough Wear A-2 in my collection.

I saw it too. It was an ELC "Escape" with all the goodies and stencil inside the lining and everything. I guess someone got the wrong size when buying.

It sold for US$645. It looks beautiful to me. Someone somewhere got a winner.

Thank you, Standby! I see it's actually a RW 27752 done up as a Hilts A-2, so this is NOT the new "Escape A-2," which is RW 16159, but still a great A-2 that sold for good price for the buyer.

I just saw this on Instagram:

It seems ELC is releasing a replica of the A2 that Steve McQueen wore on the movie "The Great Escape".

I wonder what is the reason behind this release. Maybe there are a lot of people who have been asking for replicas of this jacket for years and they've decided to release it before some other makers do it. Although I remember seeing an Eastman A2 before on Ebay which had been modified to look like this one with the name tag and all.

If you're looking for a new one, I spoke to someone at ELC regarding these a little while ago. Apparently the current plan is to have a fresh production run sometime early next year, when the move to a bigger factory is complete. Just as well, time to start saving....
