I just purchased this Gieves & Hawkes Chesterfield. I can't wait to get it:

Thanks for all the great responses. The price was right, and I couldn't resist.

How long is it?

It comes several inches below my knee. I'll try to get a full length shot of it sometime soon. I should have gotten one today.

A dapper coat for a true gentlemen

Gieves & Hawkes happens to be one of my favorite Savile row bespoke houses even treading on Huntsman, Dege, Henry Poole, and the rest. I have always loved chesterfield coats and the one you show is one of the nicest i have ever had the pleasure of laying eyes upon. I have a question Alanc I know now most chesterfield coats are worn in fall and winter. Technically aren't they a type of frock coat so they could be worn seasonally with morning dress(hickory grey trousers, tan or grey DB vest and silk top hat) instead of the morning coat? I have felt the material and I know it is thick but not like a town coat or a "British Warm" coat. If the chesterfield coat is in a charcoal, navy, or black DB or SB with a velvet lapel could it be worn for instance to the ascot races in the spring?

By the way AlanC is your avatar that of a gentlemen of the early to late 1840s or a little after. It looks that way beacuse thats when stovepipe first became very popular and then again in the 1860's, the vest looks as if it was a wide shawl db vest which I know was first entered the world of fashion in in the late 1820's 1830's but the color palate is more conservative which started a tad before the mid 1800's plus his cravat and the straight trousers really lend itself towards being early to mid victorian.
