New Champ!

I won the Champ from a fellow in New Jersey on Saturday. I paid for it immediately and he said that he would get it into the mail on Monday. Monday, I found it in my mailbox. That's service!

I really like this hat. It's got more mothing than was described, but none of it is bad enough to be a problem. It's clean as a whistle and fits well, though not as snug as I expected a 7 1/4 to be. Nevertheless, this is definitely a keeper!

Now, how does one get the wind trolly off the crown so you can actually use it, should one choose to do so?

That's a sheer beauty, Ugarte! Your collecting is showing a lot of promise! Great choice! Never having used a wind trolley, my guess is that it has been doubled around the crown, so you unwind it, pull it though the loop that the buttoned end is using to stay secured at the base of the crown, and remove a enough slack to button the button into your jacket lapel button hole. I think.

Thank you Dean. I am pretty well covered for hats and don't anticipate another purchase in the near future. [/famous_last_words]

As for the wind trolly, it seems the loop is actually attached to the button on both ends. I confess that in my twiddling around with this thing, I actually pulled the trolly cord off it's attachment under the bow. I tacked it back down with my trusty sewing kit and a gray thread that matched superbly, but this is beyond me. Could it be an ornament? A "faux trolly" as it were?

I may be wrong, but I believe the loop on the button, makes it possible to either fasten the button in a convenient button hole or to put a convenient button through the loop on the trolly (i.e. when not wearing a suit with a button hole.)

That makes sense J.T., but how do I get the trolly off the crown? I need a tutorial.

NIce Hat!! I've had a few Champs, and the hat is underrated- felt is of
good quality, and they all seem to have a flair of their own; and the color on yours-oh boy...
wind trolley (my experience) simply unhook it - it should be doubled around the single cord, unwrap it around the crown, and you're in business!
you may have to pull the loop end down toward the button end, rather than force it; the difficult part is getting it on snug afterward. I use a small piece of electrical wire, covered in thin plastic coating (insulation?), that I've made a little "U" in , and gently pull it back around; sometimes have to deform the crown a little bit to gain the precious inch or so to snug the trolley up.
I use them a fair amount-trips into Boston, walking around downtown, you get some real blasts right off the harbor, and in Winter ankle weights are good if you don't want to get blown blocks away...

I'm in eastern New Mexico. Twice a year we have the "High Speed Sand Festival". It will last several days at a stretch and the wind howls around the clock.

A wind trolley would be really handy.
