I went through this with watches and promised myself never again. I literally bought and flipped 40+ watches in a two year span (I mostly bought used so I didn't lose much on the flips). I promised myself I wouldn't do this with leather jackets. Just find two (or maybe three, four tops ) nice leather jackets and be satisfied.

After collecting watches, and art, and modern design, I’ve found leather jackets to be relatively inexpensive. And whenever my wife gives me a hard time about a new acquisition, I just ask her if she’d prefer I collect vintage cars- with all the excessive storage, maintenance, insurance and registration headaches. So in the grand scheme of collecting, I consider the pursuit of leather jackets as a relatively inexpensive passion that at its best combines history, design, art, and ultimately a very tactile experience for the senses, all for a rather nominal price of admission. At least, this is what I tell myself whenever I’m getting ready to order my next custom horsehide jacket!

Standby, I hear you and yeah, of course I'm super happy to see others getting their new leathers, especially if the fit is spot on like with the OP here, but that's the thing; I see someone getting their new jacket and they look great and all, and instantly I'm thinking that's it, this is the jacket I need. And I don't. I mean, what for?
And offloading jackets also doesn't work for me. The other day, a friend of mine from the MC club I used to belong to, also a leather jacket nut and the only person IRL that actually gives a crap about any of my jackets, asked me "Man, you must have quite a collection!" to which nodded while thinking to myself yeah right, on Photobucket, perhaps. I've been through like 10 Aeros and yeah, it's not much I know but for someone with such crap income that's... not too bad! Eventually I flipped all of them but oftentimes I wish I hadn't. Like that steer HWM. I really miss that one. My problem is, I love having these things around. I love having Vanson Model A and B and for all intents and purposes, it's the same damn jacket. Sans patches. Heck, my girl thought that the patches were removable & that I was switching them around!
I really wonder what is it about leather jackets that's so appealing? I never cared all that much for clothes, but these things...

I wonder if I would've been happy with just my Schott, had I not ended up here? Probably nothing would've made any difference as there's still the rest of the internet. Would not have been so easy to get that daily dose, I suppose, but one in need always finds a way, eh.

Monitor, this post hit me rite between the eyes !! I am where you were a long time ago with my brand new Schott. I got a 641 steerhide and thought that it was the end all. This was my first premium leather jacket ( as of now only ), MC leathers I had in the past were cheap $100-150 range stuff. I love the 641 and have to have it around me all the time, the smell, looking at it, checkin it out, holdin it , lookin at it again......nuts. Then I found my way to FL. I'm ready to buy a Vanson next week, model B America jacket. When I get on Aero's website I just want to get one of them.....RITE NOW!! Not even thinking about where or when i'll wear it..........just want it !! Funny thing is I never really thought about leather jackets or clothes all that much...now i'm getting hooked too. When someone posts a pic of there new jacket I go on that website and think I need one. Must be a combination of the smell and the leather itself plus the excitement of getting a new jacket that releases some happy juice in the brain. I'm going to have to really keep a close eye on this situation....after I get the Vanson of coarse..........

I vouched earlier this year about the principle of enjoying what one has. But 2016 so far has turned out to be an orgy of jacket buys/acquisitions, with no sign of stopping anytime soon.

Oh, and that's not even the best part. That moment when two years, 20 jackets and 10K Euros later, you're hitting the Add to Cart button on Schott dot com, under the 641 steerhide - that same jacket you've sold in the meantime thinking at the time you've moved on and upgraded to much better stuff, the same jacket life seems impossible without - and while filling out the Paypal details & transferring the funds you realize what just happened; that's the best part.
You won't know whether to laugh or to cry, but it doesn't matter. The jacket is already on the way. That's all that matters. Time to refresh the USPS parcel tracking page. Again.

There are certain watches I've bought, sold, bought, sold four or five times, it's nuts. I had to stop posting on a watch message board because of the enabling, I literally had a problem, I started with $150 watches, moved to a $500 watch and couldn't believe I spent that much, two years later I was buying and selling watches worth thousands and not thinking twice about it. I started looking at watches in the $1,000 range as basically garbage because the movement was too generic, or the case finish work was just machined likely in China. It's amazing how your perspective can change once you get immersed in a hobby.

I also started with a schott 618. And I thought "that's it, I like it so much I will never wear another leather jacket again". And kept on wearing it indoors, outdoors and just staring at it.

That's like saying "isn't any North Face down jacket infinitely lighter and warmer than a horsehide leather"? Watch folks throw all reason and practicality out the window with the hobby. Accuracy isn't important as in competing with quartz accuracy, because they'll lose every time, even a million dollar mechanical can't keep time as well over a year as a $10.00 Walmart Timex, but accuracy is extremely important when comparing it to other mechanical watches if that makes sense.

Absolutely. However, watch enthusiasts do not buy mechanical watches for accuracy. Rather, we buy complicated mechanical watches because they are engineering masterpieces and works of art. The vast majority of the complications found in sophisticated mechanical watches are entirely unnecessary and irrelevant, and rarely if ever used by the owner. For example, my previously posted Greubel Forsey Double Tourbillon had a complicated tourbillion movement. The tourbillion was developed in 1795 to counter the effects of gravity in pocket watches that remain in a fixed/stationary position, within a pocket, for an extended period of time. This technology is entirely unnecessary in a wristwatch, which is constantly moving and, therefore, does not experience the negative effects of a stationary pocket watch. Nevertheless, because a tourbillon is difficult to build – a double tourbillion is exponentially more difficult to build – and, therefore, an engineering feat, skilled modern watch makers incorporate tourbillions into wristwatches for artistic and engineering purposes. My Richard Mille RM004 had a split second chronograph, which enables the owner to time two separate events simultaneously (most chronographs can only time a single event).

No one has a need for such a complication (the vast majority of people never use the chronograph function on their watch, but nevertheless buy chronograph watches solely because they look good). So why do people buy split second chronographs? Because they are wildly difficult to manufacturer and, therefore, an engineering/artistic feat. My JLC Minute Repeater could audibly chime the time.

Again, an entirely unnecessary feature (unless you are blind or trapped deep in a cave/mine without light), but very difficult to build and, therefore, an engineering/artistic feat. My De Bethune DB15 had a moon phase indicator.
