N Texas weather today is much like Scotland weather at its worst. After a week of balmy weather, a very strong wet "Norther" blew through the Dallas metroplex Saturday night that was preceded by a series of killer tornadoes. The line of tornado activity first touched down in the S metroplex just 20 miles directly below where I live as it moved from S to N, but I think was pushed to the NNE about 12-14 miles east of where I live by the frontal boundary coming in from the NW. So, I dodged a major bullet, although several lost their homes and lives in the NE corner of the metroplex. Truly a scary event. I also mentioned in this thread:

The horrendous weather was all over the news last night, not least the blizzards that have blown behind the tornadoes. Horrendous stuff, but glad to hear that you've dodged them.

I'm still working on losing a little midsextion to get back in my sheepskins, but it's been so mild down here, today I was out in my Dustbowl over just a shirt. It's like March out there!

Sorry Chaps and chap'esses , no sheepskins were harmed in this post.
Thought I would go out on the bike and try some of my winter warmers everyone had given me. So I'm sweating putting the marino base layer followed by a thermal vest and leggings. Top it off with a Gortex jacket, Cold Killer balaclava, some textile padded trouser sand finally my warmest biking gloves with inner liners. Phew. Actually I usually get a bit hot sorting my gear out but then 5 miles down the road and it was just too much. First off were the glove liners, but by then I had decided only on a short ride as I was well overdressed so headed off for my tea stop in Maldon Essex.
Next time it will be better thought out as I am looking forward to a New Years day run. But either way, ROLL ON SPRING(yes, shouting

Had a snow storm yesterday: not really a blizzard by Chicago standards, but enough to cancel an event that I was planning on attending and to mess up evening traffic. Had to fire up the snow blower and clear the driveway: the ANJ-4 served its intended purpose quite well, but I did note that the shearling collar attracted wet snow like a sponge. My best case scenario wish is that a few snowfalls like that and the subsequent dry-outs will add character to the fleece.

Socal weather went from hot to cold in an instant. There was no Autumn this year! I'm up visiting home atm in the Bay Area and it has been cold and mostly overcast. A far cry from the Arctic temperatures many loungers have to put up with, but I'm not comfortable either!

My wife bought me an electric vest years ago. I looked at her like she was nuts. Then I tried it. Never rode in the winter again without it. Best thing I ever added to my kit. Riding cold is dangerous, and riding warm is wonderful. My favorite time of year to ride now.

OK, I have heard of the electric chair , but not the electric vest ! Is this some bizarre regional punishment like death by firing squad or being made to eat haggis ?

I have electric socks, and the 1 time I tried Haggis it wasn't that bad (after parading it around the castle and a few single malts of course).

She may have been betting on the rain causing a short-circuit and zapping me. But it's a lovely item. Wear it with a long-sleeve T shirt and a leather jacket no matter how cold it is.

I think you can buy a plug in everything now, gloves insoles, vests, trousers. Don't know what that lot would do to the alternator though if you had the lot going plus all the bike electrical stuff.
I contemplated wearing the ANJ4 a few years ago but it still rides up the back a little too much. I think the fleece may take a low speed slide if unlucky, especially with the arm facings as protection.

I thought haggis was a Scottish national dish but think it would take quite a few shots of single malt anything before I would actually attempt to eat the stuff.

I think you can buy a plug in everything now, gloves insoles, vests, trousers. Don't know what that lot would do to the alternator though if you had the lot going plus all the bike electrical stuff.

That's why I've always had moto-specific jackets. Now, I only have ridden sport bikes (on the street) so maybe with a more upright riding position on another style, I would try one of mine here. That's why moto jackets often have than piece in the back that goes below the belt. Nothing worse than cold air riding up your back and down your butt - unless it's summer
