Looks great. How are you finding wearing it by comparison to the Irvin? Lovely piece. Arguably the most practical of all the military sheepskins.

Thanks! So far, I would say that the two jackets are very different in terms of 'feel'. The ANJ is quite close fitting, unlike the Irvin which is a relaxed fit that takes thick jumpers etc under it. The ANJ definitely has more bulk, the extra paneling and thick shearling guarantee that, but the goat arm gussets mean that movement isn't limited (was driving in it today, so no probs there), and they're also very effective at stopping overheating. The ANJ is warmer, I would say, but I was wandering around in it this evening in temperatures of 5C, wearing the striped jumper you can see in the pics, and I didn't feel overdressed.
The thing that we get up here are 'raw' days. The thermometer may say 5C, but a combination of a snell winter wind and dampness make it feel much colder - the sort that gets into your bones. The big furry collar has received a couple of odd stares, which made me laugh inwardly, but hell, they were all shivering in crappy, thin jackets!

Perfect, perfect fit Sloan, nice one!

That's going to look wonderful once you get some wear going on that goatskin and the fleece.

I seriously love it :)

Nice fit!

I prefer the fit of the ANJ over the Irvin. I think it suits you better.

The shearling seems really soft.

Really beautiful, so how much it weights ?

About the weather, we have the same phenomenon where I live. 2 years ago the temp was 5°C but with a wind at 100km/h the wind chill was -12°C I could have use an ANJ-4 but this year it would be useless...

Currently the temperature is 13°C too hot to wear my Sheene, I'm wearing my BK Californian (it's my spring jacket...)

Craig, that ANJ-4 might be the best cold weather jacket that I have ever seen. The only head covering that you might need to go with that collar upturned and fastened is a Filson wool skull cap. Well done!

Cheers, Smithy. As you say, a bit of wear will get some character onto the shell and shearling, and lose some of the stiffness.
@SpeedRcrX I think both jackets have a lot to recommend them - the Irvin's longer cuffs are like fingerless mittens in this weather and the belt helps keep the wind out, the ANJ has that extra length and storm cuffs tucked away, so design-wise they both aim to do the same thing.
The Irvin has really taken on a nice character - the pic is from when I bought it - and the creases and folds have molded to my body, so it's very much 'mine'. It'll be interesting over time to see which one becomes my 'go to', but they both give me options when it comes to matching my shoes with my jacket! Weight-wise, the ANJ comes in at a smidgen over 6.6lbs (3kg).
@Fanch That's very kind, sir. I've flipped the collar already and it really does a damn job of keeping the elements out!

Love the Aero ANJ-4. Have been looking at the B3s as I want sheepskin, as I haven't had one in a few years, but until this thread I hadn't considered the ANJ-4. It's a beautiful jacket, and I'm seriously thinking russet.

Smutter, schmaltz I like, but Shmuck ?

Ya'll allow feelthy words like that on this forum?;)

Very, very nice. I spent a few winters in that weather and that certainly looks like the perfect jacket. Cheers. All you need now is a hot toddy.

A bit late to the party, but this is a great looking jacket, Sloan, and with a very nice fit too! It's indeed looking more trim and "dressed" than the Irvin

Nah... A B2 cap! ;) I love mine with my B3. I'd love a B5 too, but can't quite imagine wearing that on the street!

Hehe, yes it's common use belies its meaning! As far as a redskin ANJ goes, I think that would be a great idea - I thought about it, but wanted the classic look. You could add russett panels!

The sources of headgear to wear with that ANJ-4 are numerous. Below are pics of Filson's Skull Cap and Double Mackinaw Cap, and a B-2 Cap, all great choices. Craig, since you have already poured a bucket load of quid into your winter jackets, I figure you can afford to buy all three. ;) Actually, I think there is a Filson store in London, and you could probably buy an Eastman B-2 Cap at American Classics. :D
