Congrats Blackthorn! You look good man, but be warned it's an expensive and addictive fun hobby .
We pretty much have the same water Blackthorn. Not too hard with minerals. But, when I can, I used distilled. But have recently used tap for my Tawny Fawn and Carbon Feds. No problem so far. Fingers crossedBlackthorn said:Oops...I used chlorinated tap water from the spray bottle. Uh oh. What effect is this going to have on the fur?:eusa_doh: :eusa_doh:

Thanks, Goose, maybe I didn't mess it up too badly. At least now I know, before the Fed IV gets here so I don't use chlorinated water on it. I'm so excited, I just got an email from Jenny at Hats Direct and they're sending off my new hat!Goose. said:We pretty much have the same water Blackthorn. Not too hard with minerals. Thanks, Tiller, you are right on all counts. It may be expensive, but it IS fun. Today I attended an outdoor wedding and wore my new gray fedora with my gray suit. It surely added to my fun of being there and I got lots of compliments from folks who don't usually see me dressed up.Tiller said:Congrats Blackthorn! Thanks for the input, Avedwards. Wearing yours as often as you do, in rain and shine, you have a unique perspective. Now I'm going to have to pull my DVD of The Untouchables off the shelf and watch it again.avedwards said:I feel the need to post here as a Chatham is the only fitting fur felt I currently own. Mine is carribou as well and I find it works with every colour I have in my wardrobe, including my brown leather jacket. I tightened the pinch on mine as I think it looks better.
As for the brim, an observation I made was that it can be turned down all around and I do so on occaision (though it stays down in front and up in back most of the time) but it helps if the front is further down than the back. If you steam the brim like HPG has done this should be the case when you snap the back down. If you see The Untouchables, Ness's fedora has very similar dimensions and colours to the Chatham and in the Canadian border scene he has the brim turned down in such a way and it looks fine.
Just a final note on durability, I wear mine regularly in rain and other than having to resteam he brim now and then it has no problem coping with it.
