To be proper, they should have named her Henrietta but called her Indiana.
After all, Indiana is a dog's name. ;)

My supervisor has an unusual name. Often I hear her on the phone saying, "Lark. Lark. No, Lark. L-A-R-K. Lark." That's gotta get old.

I'm sure that she'll have to deal with "no way...really?" almost every day for the rest of her life - or at least until she's old enough to petition the probate court for a change of name.

Dow really is bad though. I guess you've got to just go by DJ.

It could be worse. He could go by DJIA---Dow Jones Industrial Average.
I am sure she will be going by Diana long before too many no ways get out.
It does get old fast.

People used to name their daughters after the states a lot - Nevada, California, Georgia, Virginia- all nice old-fashioned names. I rather like Indiana!

Now Rhode Island, or New Mexico, those would be stupid names.

And I agree, having a name that is hard to spell is no fun at all, I ought to know.

I think the trend toward naming your kid after a product might be coming to an end. Every few years, there are reports about how many people named their kids after cars, beers, etc.

My mom is a teacher and has plenty of students with funny names.
These are all true.
She's had a boy named BK1 (named after a Burger King sandwich), a boy named Derf (dad was going to name him Fred, but the kid came out backward), a boy named Spongebob, and a girl named Felonies (pronounced fella-niece). She also had a Vietnamese (or was it Cantonese) girl named Bich (I believe that was the spelling), but that was a simply a foreign name that ends up having problems in an English speaking country, not the result of crazy parents.

My minor niece had her named changed from Nikka to Jessica. Nikka isn't that bad a name...unless you're over the age of 12.

She could also go by India. It's a unsual name, but there's some precedence for it.

And yes, "Indiana, like the state" should clear up how to spell it, but frequently, it won't. I have resumes from people seeking secretarial positions who couldn't copyedit a comic strip.

I think I like Diana more---its a name songs are written about. ;) :p
Tell me about different name spellings. I have to ask how to spell Shirlee, Traci, Caren and a host of other names that were pretty standard years ago.
