My new Hatsdirect Bushman Akubra.

Hi to all,
today it's arrived, wow, only 5 days from Hatsdirect to me, in Italy.
Hatsdirect has a great coustumer service, Deb is very fine and patient.
Take a look on my hat.
It is a feather weight felt, unlined, the felt of the crown is very soft and pliable, the brims are a little more stiff, and they sounds "snap" when I bash them.
On first, I think that it could be only a "country" hat,but now I think it could be, quite pretty, a dress hat.
It has bounde edge and a fine ribbon about 39 mm.; brims width is about 83 mm.
Could ,anyone, advice me how to give it a more country look?

A fine example of a thin ribboned fedora, sir! I agree that it can be "dressed up" or "dressed down".
I have a 10-20 yr. old Akubra made Stetson Open Road in a similar weight felt and ribbon treatment & it is miles ahead of anything Hatco has done for 30+ yrs. as is my three year old Akubra Federation and brand new Akubra Adventuer, they sure know how to make a great product.
Looking forward to photos of said hat in situ...

Hi to all,
my Bushman is the australian version of this type of hat.
It is not like the DM's Bushman model there are some differents between the two models:
DM's Bushman, how you could see on his site, has a thin ribbon and a very high crown (that I really love);
Australian model (by hatsdirect) has a 39mm ribbon, a lower crown and a little tapered, bounde edge, unlined. It is a featherweight fur felt, very fine, Deb (hatsdirect) who was very patient with me, tell me that this model is worm by the Australian farmers when they go into the town, this is a medium town hat, not exactly a country hat:it is at the half of the way (in italian we say so!).
I've bashed it curled a bit the brims, just near the bound, rear brims are up (flat with the bound edge curled up), the same on the front but with the center brim a little snapped down.
I've tried to shape it like RBH's Campdraft ( this kind of shape is an "icon" for me, it's a good job, my Campdraft is shaped like RBH's hat: thanks to his pics!!) but I think it looks better so.
I'm still fighting with my camera, I'll post some pics for you.

This is definitely one of - if not the - best hat pics on this site. Not only does the hat look great and is worn perfectly, but it's a beautifully composed shot with such great colors.....thanks for the inspiration, RBH - I am going to try and get better pics of my hats the next time I post.

ps - still working out the details on my CD order...this is going to be an agonizing three months of waiting!!

Thanks pgoat, I love the way the front pinch is on my CD. I believe it is beacuse originally I had the crease a little lower and when I raised it up it gave the top a distinct look.

Akubra Bushman

Dear riccardo,
Congratulations on your new Bushman. Here is a photo of my Bushman. It is 30 years old and has been all over the world; last trip was to the Amazon in Brasil. It is completely original, including the hatband and chinstrap. With proper care, an Akubra can easily last a lifetime. Enjoy.

When Akubra designates a name for one of its hats, it is always the same dimensions and style. But Bushmans, like any other fur felt hat, will look different depending on how it has been re-shaped. And, of course, the same hat can appear completely different on one head compared to another.

Not to throw a wet blanket on your fire, but no hat with a 3 1/4-inch brim could possibly be considered dressy, least of all this classic Australian stockman's hat. With a puggaree, braided leather hatband like Ian's, or one of animal skin, the Bushman is perfect for a safari on the Serengeti or trek through the Amazon jungle. You can't get more "country" than that.
