Question for Besdor

Can you elaborate on the problem of the black Akubra not being colorfast?
Thanks,
Ian

Great thread!

and I just finished emailing Deb about the tawny fawn Fed. She was explaining what the color actually looks like.:) I've got a snowy river thats fawn...but has a slight greenish cast to it. I was also wondering if thats the only colors offered, or are they inbetween a production cycle and they have others that aren't listed.

The darker regular Federations kind of bleed color a little when they get wet. The black one does it the most, and the Mid-Brown does it a little bit. I've never been caught in a downpour with my black Fed, but I've used water to help shape it. My fingers turned black. It has something to do with using a powdered dye to even the color, I think.

I had to take out the liner of my Fed Dlx (dark brown), because after using water on the headband, the water had run down inside the crown, and carried some dark brown dye with it. It washed out very easily, but it goes to show that even the Dlx hats are susceptible to this.

Black Akubra, etc.

Thanks guys for the information.
Since I saw Not-Bogart13's posts about the Campdraft, I ordered one last week from Australia Direct. They called me from Australia to say that Akubra was, indeed, in-between on a production cycle as suggested by Colby Jack and that delivery would not be until October. This was for the silverbelly. I imagine this might hold true for other colors and other models. I too, am debating about getting a Federation. I have a grey Squatter that I really like but it doesn't come in the colour I want. I am thinking ,therefore, I might wait for the Campdraft and rethink my options.

Best regards

I just bought and received a black akubra bogart. I was wearing it in the rain and when I came inside I placed it on its crown on a white countertop to slowly dry. After a while I picked it up and noticed two brown stains on the countertop from the two highpoints of the crown which came into contact with the countertop. When the hat finally dried through I didn't notice any color change on the hat.

Did you or are you going to post pics of your bogart? I am seriously considering getting one of those.
