Don't touch a thing Rob!!! It's perfect! Looks brand new and needs no further attention!

That's a wide brim? Man, you must have been wearing some real stingy brims before! Whippets are not known as wide brimmed lids.

Like I say, it doesn't need any thing! It's perfect!

What I usually wear

I just snapped this real quick for a reference to my usual headwear for you, didn't take the time to dress up, sorry.

This is my Stetson Eagle. It has a black sweatband in it so it's from a later era than the whippet :) That is a 2" brim on the eagle.

Sincerely,
Rob

That is indeed one good-looking hat. I LOVE the color.

I admit that I also have been feeling that my Whippets are pretty wide-brimmed. I don't think I'd want to go any wider than that.

My new one is light grey - today I took an extra hour at lunch and ran over to Greeley, CO to the Greeley Hatworks. The gent there blocked the crown for me while I wanted - teardrop top, pinch front - and tweaked the brim - and charged me just $5 for his trouble. You could have knocked me over.

It may have helped that I'm a repeat customer and I was also dropping off a western hat for a deep cleaning and complete re-blocking, which will run $50 - $70.

Now my Whippet looks darn near as good as yours!:cheers1:

You cant whip a Whippet!

Your hat looks great. This is what one hopes for when you open that box, as the UPS truck chuggs around the corner. Yep, it is very nice. The sweatband looks to be supple and unbroken, and the "bead" doesn't show a lot of wear. The felt looks like there is no mothing. Liner is clean. The gentle steam and brush will work great to spiff up a hat, esp. this one, which looks like it spent a lot of time properly stored in a box.

Don't cut it, or do any alterations! It looks good on you. The brim and crown sizes are balanced to your shoulders and facial shape.

You scored a good one there, my friend.

Yep, that's a stingy brim alright! My self, the only short brimmed hats I can stand on me are the real early 30's tall crowned jobs that are imposable to find.;) Not much for the late 50's and early 60's models.

Whippet's are not wide brimmed fedoras; they are what I call a typical fedora design. A text book or Webster's definition of what a Fedora is! They are very nice hats!

Yes, it looks great on you Rob! Don't change a thing!

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. I really like it, it is certainly of a better quality felt than the eagle is. It's just going to take me a little bit to get used to being away from my stingy brim. I used to wear only ball caps, and I was uncomfortable in my fedora because it was so different. Now you'll never see me in a ball cap. Eventually I'll get used to my whippet and it'll feel like normal :cool2:

Sincerely,
Rob

I hope this post is OK - since we've been discussing the Whippets, I wanted to let you folks know that I just tripped over one on Ebay. It's not listed as a Whippet, so I thought some of you might miss it. The picture of the liner shows the word Whippet.

Size is 7 1/4 long oval (that's my size, too bad I just bought the same color Whippet in a standard 7 1/4), color is light grey. Condition appears to be good. It's listed as " '40s GREY STETSON FEDORA".
