A British early 40s number that appeared on the 'Bay with a special high set 'austerity era ' waistcoat whose name I cannot remember.

Next question - where could you get that top of tweed these days???...it seems to be a type of Donegal[huh] [huh] [huh]

Who would make it up?

Speaking of tweed suits ...

What are fellow Lounger's opinions about a three-piece tweed suit on a big man? Is this a type of material that I should stay away from? I'm thinking about having a suit made from 10 oz charcoal birdseye tweed. Any thoughts?

Cookie,

What's the URL? I try to save as many of these postings as I can find digitally.

Have you looked at Bookster in the UK for tweed patterns?

I see no reason why you could not wear a tweed suit.

Who is going to make it for you?

I would think it would suit you well (no pun intended) ;)

Chuckle - the one that likes the word style perchance?

The very chap!

Sefton, I'm not sure when it was made. I really like the jacket. Very much early 50s in its styling. The buttons are set a little far apart for it to be original 50s, in my opinion. And the wescut is all wrong. No points!!!! 2 pockets?!!!! "Austerity" using more fabric to make it higher closing? Don't sound like the austerity regulations i've heard about.

I would really love to see the trousers of this suit. It looks to me like the pleats are in the "wrong" orientation for it to be British 1940s.

I might add that i'm not bothered about the use of the word "style". Putting it in the vintage category is a different matter.

What does bother me is the "This is the genuine article"-type listings, where it patently is nothing of the kind.

bk

Absolutely.

I uploaded them to imageshack I'll have to ask my son how to URL them.

I like this tweed from one of Sir RBH's suits

I'd agree with BK in being dubious about the dating; the waistcoat is very odd and reminds me unpleasantly of the style provided by high street shops like Ciro Citterio here in the UK about ten years ago.
