Ed Stilley and some of the instruments he made. Edward Lawrence (Ed) Stilley was a farmer and instrument maker from Hogscald Hollow (Carroll County Arkansas).

Deford Bailey (1899 - 1982). Early WSM Grand Ole Opry performer -- multi-instrumentalist, but primarily a harmonica player. He was fired in 1941 over a royalty dispute -- essentially ending his career. Returned to performing in the 1970s. He was posthumously inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Country rock blues is a music genre I realy like, and Dave Alvin (from Downey, CA) is one of my favorite performers. In this video of the song "Downey to Lubbock", with Jimmie Dale Gilmore (from Lubbock, TX), Dave wears a "western-fedora" hat that I really like. There are other types of hats from the folks in this video (shot in a bar).

I'm looking forward to seeing him later this summer. We have a pavilion downtown that features free shows and he's on the bill. I probably would have skipped it, but John Doe of the John Doe trio (and lead guitarist for X) was talking him up during a show last week.

It must have been ‘87. I believe he was 78 at the time, but still sounding so good. I still have the concert poster hanging in my garage.

I see it wasn’t a town hall, but an “opera house”.
