That's too bad. I really enjoyed his songwriting and singing. And like RBH posted above, "Live Forever" is the song that I always immediately identify with him.

Love Billy Joe and surprised this masterpiece hasn't been mentioned yet. Such great tunes and the band's so greasy. I used to go see him and his son Eddy anytime they came through town.
It was hilarious: Eddy would have his acoustic <going through a fuzz box> and Billy'd be yelling at him on stage to "TURN THE F DOWN!"

If you guys haven't read Waylon's autobiography I highly recommend. The most completely unhinged road stories imaginable. I guess missing that plane ride with the Big Bopper, Waylon figured he was charmed ; )
BTW Guy on bottom right is the great Ralph Mooney, pedal steel guitar pioneer .. one of The Greats of the instrument. He also wrote the evergreen Crazy Arms which must've made for a VERY nice check every quarter in his mail box.

Marty is such a fine musician and super nice guy. Spent about an hour on his bus after a show once. Playing with Lester at 14 must have been something.
