I give him a lot of credit for just about everything they did.
They begged him to join the band and even as a member all the other members would pay him weekly for music lessons.
He taught them theory and about classical music.
He was the seasoned schooled musician who basically turned them all into beasts

This hat always reminded me of one worn by a lady who used to sit in the pew in front of my family's at church every Sunday when I was growing up. I remember spending hours wondering what the aesthetic appeal was of piling vegetables on top of your head. At least the Chiquita Bananas girl was hot.

I'll check it out. I just finished Paul Trynka's biography of Brian Jones. Trynka's thesis is that Jones was largely responsible for the introduction of American blues back into this country's popular culture in the early '60's, and that he was also responsible for the interest in North African rhythms with his "Pipes of Pan at Joujouka" album of 1969.
