this popped up in my feed this morning ... just not your average human

boy, we lost a great one that day

He's one of those musicians that, even though I know they're insanely talented, just never clicked with me. Others are Bonnie Raitt and Led Zeppelin. Objectively, I know they are good, but I can take them or leave them.

But yeah, if The House is Rockin' comes on the radio, it's going up to 11. There's always an exception.

The plane crash on this date, Oct 20, 1977. To those members who were lost then & to those who have passed since, RIP.

one of the best damn bands pound for pound ever ... seriously.
sure people know Free Bird, Sweet Home Alabama , and Gimme Three Steps... but what most don't know is how absolutely bad ass this band actually really was ... how hard working they were ... how disrespected they were and the s*** they had to go through to break through ...
a bunch of kick ass players that would fight you if they had to .
and song writers???
I'd put ...Comin Home, Ballad of Curtis Lowe, On The Hunt, All I Can Do Is Write About It, Gimme Back My Bullets, You Got That Right etc etc up against any bands songs any day of the week .
these fkrs could play ... and they'd play all night if you let'em
RIP boys & girl
you will always be a favorite

You bet. You read my treatise on them a few months ago regarding the British influence. They get dismissively tossed into the "Southern Rock" category by most casual listeners, but had they not perished, they would have done great things musically - both collectively and individually.

nailed it to the wall Jim ... nailed it

they got smeared into that coagulated "southern rock" category but were truly so much more

a true force that unfortunately did not get to see through to fruition ... and I'm sure that left a huge void for other less deserving to fill

it's great that they are known for those "hits" ... but at the same time a bit of a shame honestly

A lot of southern rock doesn't get it's due. ABB and Skynyrd had excellent blues and English rock pedigrees, Marshall Tucker had obvious jazz influences.

Some of it is recycled crap, though, too. [emoji4]
