I've thought about this a lot, and my answer has to be Chaplin's Modern Times. It's always funny and still relevant today with the modern world conspiring against the Little Tramp at every turn. However he keeps plugging along and smiles. Whenever I need a break from the world I watch Modern TImes and find the strength to keep moving on.

Plus Paulette Goddard is a totally hot teenage waif babe.

Great choice, I always watch for this one on AMC,TCM,and FMC one of my favorite Cary Grant performances (see my avatar) because he is so against type and seems to have a lot of fun with it.

Agreed! My husband, who always poo-poo'd my love of classic movies, watched this and loved it. It's his favorite movie now.

I have a few movies that I watch as tradition, to put me in a good state of mind. I start the Summer with a little movie called Just Looking, and then around early September I watch Liberty Heights. It would actually seem weird to me to watch them any other time. In December, I (like everyone else) make it a point to watch It's A Wonderful Life. I work retail, and I'm usually in full misery mode, so I look forward to a nice quiet night with the wife to watch it and feel (temporarily) at ease.

To recharge the soul is such a personal thing.... French New Wave movies (late 50s early 60s) always do it for me! Atmosphere, mood, beauty, romance, cold rainy streets, ..... Just to think about it makes me feel better!
