Saw a Bugs Bunny cartoon recently which featured Rocky the gangster. Think anyone could duplicate the high crown and stingy brim he's wearing?

My wife and I live in Carmel by the Sea and they had their Centennial this weekend. Clint Eastwood was the Grand Marshall in the hat from Unforgiven, the poncho from the Dollar Trilogy, the shirt from High Plains Drifter, the Andy Anderson "walk and draw" holster etc. Looked pretty spry for 86! Cool. Great shot. And that's a real poncho. Not a Sears poncho!

Jimmy Stewart in "Harvey"

Another from the film. Great bash.

It makes you wonder. As hats were more common during the time of many of these movies we post pics from (the ones actually set and filmed in the 30s - 50s), did they concentrate on achieving the right crease to reflect the character, or did the actor just get issued a hat and go from there? In this day, Hollywood can agonize over the smallest detail in a film, but back then, did they care about that type of detail? Or because men's hats were ubiquitous, was it not seen as something even worth considering?

I'd heard that, at least in the earlier days of the studio system, the actors bought and wore their own clothing, suits, hats, etc. My impression is that Stewart used the same dark brown fedora for a number of years (as he did his Western hat during the '50s and '60s). So the one he wears as Elwood P. Dowd might well be the same as he wore as George Bailey, just creased differently. I've never seen a bash like that of Elwood's that 1mach1 posted.
