Dunno who that guy is. One of Grace's friends?

One lady called it a 'costume' but then apologised immediately after I corrected her.

Darcy's sell that kind of pleated bib shirt:

Also this kind is good for morning wear (wanted to get this but they do not have my size at the moment until later this year):

Beckham: see for yourself.

Such a shame that either said policeman's trousers are too long for him, or his waistband is falling down! ;)

There are male celebrities that used a persona which equates being unshaven with a sense of rugged manliness.

By "equates being unshaven with a sense of" I presume you mean "mistakes slovenliness for"? ;)

You'll have to ask him, the way I see it: being unshaven is fine for a camping trip but not for a Royal Wedding.

I'm certainly no royalist, but it did seem rather rude to turn up at a wedding to which one has been invited in such an unkempt state. To be fair, though, that appears to be the norm for Beckham, so if they invited him they must have known what to expect. At least I imagine he would have smiled at some point during the day.

I'm not quite sure I understand the weird fixation with regards to clean shaveness. There were a lot of people at the wedding with beards.

Here is the concept - if you are clean shaven you appear clean and well groomed. If you have a beard and it is well kept you appeared groomed.

If you have a three day growth it looks un-kept, like you are not keeping up with your grooming efforts.

However for many in a era where there are to be no standards or rules what does it matter.........

But your assertion that it 'appears' unkept, and and looks like the person in question isn't keeping up with their grooming efforts is willfully minsunderstanding the situation. We all know that Beckham quite clearly intended to wear his beard like that and almost certainly would have trimmed it that morning. Obviously everyone has a right to like or dislike a certain facial hair style, as Tomasso evidently does, but it reeks of snobbery to smugly accuse him of slovenliness when quite obviously he'd intended to go like that. It's all too easy I think to pounce on the guy who plays football and speaks with an accent and treat him with obsequeous contempt, but nobody seems to have mentioned how terrible John Major (KG!!!) looked in his purple shirt.

If you're following the logic that people should be hauled over coals for not looking like a model of self-disciplined personal presentation, then what about the people who are a bit overweight. Are they putting in enough effort?

Ok, so I'm playing devil's advocate a bit, and I'm defnitely no huge David Beckham fan, but to be honest I think the guy deserves to be cut a little bit of slack. He was far from being the worst turned out on the day.

Actually, I've been known to miss a shave or two but not on important occasions. I just find it disrespectful.[huh]

That's exactly my point. He clearly hasn't 'missed a shave', he's wearing a style. That might well be worse in some eyes, but it should be taken for what it is.

Nothing wrong with a beard. It's the "Look at me, I'm so cool I don't even shave regularly" look with which I take issue.

I should entirely expect there were many appalling "fashion crimes" at the event, however apart from the standard image of the couple themselves, this is the only place at which I have seen anything of the wedding.

We all have a different set of concepts as to what is acceptable versus what is not acceptable. It's fine if one has either low or no concept of standards, that is their life and they get to live it they way they want but it doesn't make for a life without consequences. If the idea is to abolish any sense of standards so that people can just do what ever they as a concept of true freedom then that concept is one where the total focus is on self. This for many makes it one that is all others are either at the same level or they are adversaries.

So much for the idea of bringing ones best to honor those that that one has come to see. There is a corolation between lower standards and lower outcome.

If Beckham wants to be Sonny Crockett that is fine, if I have no right to express an opinion that being unshaven looks more like an unsavory character, then I refer to Voltaire.

I look forward to seeing everyone show up in pajamas like they just rolled out of bed for the next wedding.

Quite so, and is it not up to us to cultivate our gardens, and not throw stones in others'?

Right. There is a fine line between expressing an opinion as to our likes and dislikes, and begrudging a fellow do his own thing. We frequently leap that line..
