OK, I will immediately begin ducking the inevitable flurry of thrown objects, but I am in the market for a new tuxedo. I have neither the time not patience to find vintage to fit a 6'3" 200 lb man. I'm looking for advice on brands, retailers, etc, for a modern suit. All advice welcomed.

I got mine from the mens wearhouse (www.menswearhouse.com). Its a really modern design: 3 button, notch lapel and was an OK price. I bought it for my wedding, figured if I wear it at least 4 times in my life then I got my monies worth.
Of course, it was only after that that I discoved the Lounge and vintage wear.

Joseph Banks and Brooks Brothers, as well as other men's stores, have new Tuxedos at reasonable prices. Another option is to visit one of the rental companies. They often have suits for sale that have been on the rental plan for a while.

I rented up until about 20 years ago when I could no longer afford the investment in time away from the office necessitated by the rental suits.

I'm fairly flexible on that. I'm willing to pay for high quality (though not to the excess, say, of Armani) as anything else is simply money wasted no matter how little.

Sorry, that's not much of an answer. :eusa_doh:

I bought a tux for my wedding 2.5 years ago and it was definitely a good buy. I got mine as separates from men's warehouse. Let me just say I typically don't care for that store, but I really like my tux, maybe because its a Jones New York and not a house brand, but it seems to be alright quality. I also agree that the styling and fit are the 2 main components. I would say classically a 1 button peak or shawl lapel would serve you the best. As for fit, you may be built like me because of your height and weight(I'm 6'4" 250) so separates got me pretty close. I then took my tux to a local high quality men's store(I would use my tailor now but didn't know him then) and had them do anything they needed to make it right. The alterations cost me almost $100 but the fit is perfect, and it looks fantastic. So whatever you do and where ever you buy it from take it some where really good for the alterations. On mine, they did the sleeves, took in the waist, hemmed the pants, adjusted the waist seat and rise on the trousers and generally fit it all around. Even though it was only a $300 tux, it looks really good and fits really well now, the alterations are key. Don't forget a tie it yourself bow tie. Its not hard if you haven't done it, and people will notice the difference between it and a clip on.

Another vote for the Men's Wearhouse. Decent price. Altered to fit properly. I've found my tux to be even more comfortable than any of the suits I own. Very satisfied.
