I go through those phases too, Amy Jeanne...unfortunately I've struggled the last couple of years (PTSD and associated issues), and one side effect has been a measure of paranoia - a conviction that I'm irritating people, that they find me arrogant or pompous, that they might think I have too much money to splash around or any number of other things I worry about that might seem baseless and completely irrational to others. In this unfortunate state of mind - however much I tell myself I'm being melodramatic or just overly sensitive - I find it's better to pull away a bit rather than let my paranoia feed on itself. I don't like inflicting my state of mind on others, as it's difficult to reassure someone with irrational fears like I have. It is difficult to interact positively on a messageboard when you're combatting feelings of insecurity, worthlessness and the sneaking (if baseless) suspicion that you're disliked. That's not very constructive for anyone, and rather than make the issue one that others have to cope with or tiptoe around or get frustrated over, it's better to just quietly withdraw.

As a psychologist, I understand your plight. As a vintage lover and fellow woman -- pish posh!! There is no need to feel that way. We all like to show off things we're proud of. And on the other side, most people enjoy admiring others' awesome stuff -- especially if they are interested in it themselves. I say if you have the means, go for it! :D

Also, I can assure you -- you are not disliked. I've spoken privately with MANY ex-posters and your name has never come up in a negative way. Only positive, actually. The goodness, honest truth.

Thanks ladies :) I hope that didn't come across as terribly needy...the rational and irrational sides of my thinking don't always communicate well, thus the need to withdraw lest I become a needy thing needing constant reinforcement. I very much appreciate the kind words.

for my part I have always enjoyed your posts. They are informative and entertaining. You are knowledgeable and an excellent teacher. No pomposity IMHO. I hope you will continue to participate. Your photo essays from New Zealand were particularly enjoyable. I have often enjoyed your Sydney Flapper Blog as well. At any rate thank you for all you have contributed in the past and here's to more in the future.

Seeing what people buy and talking about the items they bought with others is one of the ways I expand my own knoledge about fashion, becuse they might not be something I would buy or see normally.
I am not worried about what they are spending , becuse it's always a personal balance as to where you spend your money, if some one spends more on vintage than me I do not mine may be I spend more on my workshop equipment than they do.

Personally my interest in vintage fashion is pretty narrow, I am maily interested in why a styles is worn and how clothesing can be used to change a person apperance or image, so even been on here since 2006 I only post when something interest me.
To be hounest I can read a topic and think that's boring I cannot be bothered to even post in it.

Also I like cutting edge topics on forums which are difficult becuse the people taking part have to all know that it's not a personal go at them, just a very different view, this can only only work when you have spoken to the people a lot and have gained a understanding of there view even if it is different to yours.

Just poking by to let everyone know I'm still around--just haven't really had a lot of questions, answers or exciting news on the subjects this site focuses on.

On a more positive note and related to the era, a model of a prof's old plane has been eating a lot of my time, but Norm's Six (F-106, an interceptor built in the late '50s and early '60s) is finally starting to make some headway... the boss-bird stripes are a bloody nuisance, but I've even cracked most of their geometry--now all I gotta do is figure out how to mask straight lines up a compound-curved surface. (Sorry, a modeler's nuisance.)

It's perfectly natural that old members drop out now and again - for shorter or longer periods.
I feel like doing it myself too. Discussions seem to be repeating themselves, questions too. (Which WWII plane do you find the prettiest?)
Then you know, that you've been here long enough. Some seek to other places others just drop out. And go out in the real world and the sunshine.
Others just limit their posting to the very few subjects, where you can either contribute with something in earnest - or learn something new.
So - I am not MIA - just doing stuff.
