I love those hats.... is it possible to remove the regalia for daily wear? I'd love one of those for a casual hat, but there's a certain sort of attention the swastika would attract(!)

Sure. The insignia is pinned on, so they actually come without the Death's Head or Eagle.

This vendor has good ones made by the war time supplier:

They come with the insignia, but you can sell that on. It'll take some work to get the "crusher" look, but it's easy enough and well worth it. I can help you out with how to do it, if you go this route.

I'll likely tuck the insignia away in case I ever did get into the re-enactment (I'd actually rather like a go at that one day); I'd just hate for it to be misunderstood!
