Yeah, I'm always fascinated by Chile, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. If you have any pictures of these places post them Marc. I'm a history buff.

My college roommate's family lived outside Filadelphia, Paraguay after escaping Germany. They left there and went to the US some years later. I flew a very old DC3 there once. Beautiful place. Flew a smaller plane out. They were going to use it for some commercial purpose. It was my understanding there werre quite a few of them down there.

I too love all types of history and find South America fascinating. I think I shall choose one of these countries to take over some day. Benevolent dictator seems a good living to me, don't you think eh?

Marc,

Fantastic pictures. It's like a guided tour from a friend.

It also made me think, with my stereotypical "they're all alike" American mindset, about a series of essays I'd read about living during the (then current) economic collapse in Argentina a few years back. Some scary stuff.

It seems as if Chile was not (as badly) affected?

Mr. Chevalier, would you ever return for one last visit? We need an event in Chile.

Actually, I think we need events that are not in any way close to anyone. Makes more of a journey. We all meet somewhere in South America. If you get lost and end up in Panama, I have a high school friend who lives there. ;)

These pictures and the information you've written to go along with them is great! My knowledge of anywhere in South America is pretty much zip. I could use some enlightenment.

OK, here's some snaps from when we were living in Santiago...

This one's from Barrio Bellavista and that blue coloured place is "Azul Profundo" which I mentioned in the booze thread. It has wonderful seafood and good pisco sours

Excellent! This puts "Santiago: Forestal Park" by Stephen Dobyns in context for me...
