Some people may be shaken & stirred to learn that the next 'OO7' will be played by a...a...a woman !!! Since Daniel Craig's Bond is retiring in Jamaica, it's up to British actress, Lashana Lynch, to save queen(king) & country using her newly acquired, licence to kill.

She already ticks two boxes in the PC list of requirements for a modern day hero & if she turns out to be lesbian, an ecologist & anti-Brexit, she will be fully armed to combat all those magalomaniacs hell bent on destroying the world. Hopefully she's going to kick ass & not incapacitate her enemies via childish Tweets which seems to be today's modus operandi.

So, after the 'Doctor' & now James Bond, there are rumors that 'Thor' is next in line for a sex change. I vote he/she be played by a transgender person with a medium sized hammer & very concerned about global warming.

N.B. For all those reading the above who have been programmed to take everything literally, please note that my tongue was firmly in my cheek. Google is there to help should you need assistance understanding the tongue-in-cheek reference.

Makes sense to me that today a 007 could be any sex or race, so as Lizzie says succinctly and in her ineffable style, no problem with it at all.

The two articles I read were unclear on a few points. Will the new 007 be a "Bond" film or just a film that "connects" to the Bond franchise - M, Q, etc.?

Also - and recognizing there has always been a suspension of reality to accept Bond being played by different actors over 50+ years - are they keeping the franchise of a male Bond as a 007 "alive?" Not that it can't be brought back, but is the current plan to also release 007 James Bond films?

It is my understand that this is a Bond film. The new 007 is likely just to show that he is actually "retired" at that point in the movie that the action kicks in and Bond is pulled back into the spy game. Her character will probably get killed off by the end and Bond will be back as 007. The character's name is Nomi, by the way.

Great info - all makes sense. Thank you.

My understanding is that there won't be a new 'James Bond' after the 'change over' movie currently being filmed, at least not for the forseable future & that this young lady will be the new 007, so presumably, she'll be able to fulfill all the tasks Mr. Bond was able to, including avoiding getting killed. Daniel Craig is fed up with the franchise & so won't be coming back & as far as we know, there isn't a short list of male actors ready to take on the role. My guess is that there will be a new 007 movie with miss Lynch which will end with the possibility of a 'Jane Bond 2' but that the final decision will depend on profit margins & the public's reaction.

Besides, a male Bond can no longer compete with Ethan Hunt.

Well if “Naomi” was pregnant also that would check some more boxes! So to speak.

Still think that 007 should have been Idris Elba, personally. Then again, I would put Idris in anything.

I never watched Dr. Who, and have no reason to start now.

As for Thor, Jane Foster has taken up the Hammer multiple times in the comics already. I don't have a problem with the movies staying true to the comics. Unfortunately, I'm not really interested in anything Marvel anymore.

They could call her double-0 anything, even seven, but she could never be James Bond simply because she is a woman. She would simply be another license-to-kill agent, even if they give her the iconic 007 designation. If it was a costumed character, then at least there'd be a half-a-chance for suspension of disbelief, afaic. Nah.

And yes, I know it was tongue-in-cheek, but all PC stuff gives me a pain.

I don't know where she stands on the subject of global warming, nor do I know how big her hammer is going to be. But they've already announced the new female Thor will be played by Natalie Portman. That is, at least until they change their minds and cast someone else.

Not sure about PC but for my money Bond films have not been interesting for years. Maybe this'll give the aging, juvenile franchise some much needed vitality.

Nor have the Bond books. Fleming died in 1964, after which I lost interest in James Bond. In total there have been 39 books, featuring James Bond, only 14 of which were penned by Fleming. In addition there's been a total of 29 movies, all over a period of 56 years. Good grief, that equals William Shakespeare, who wrote 39 plays, as well as the sonnets, but The Bard died aged just 52. What sort of Bond would he have created, I wonder.

"A Bond by any other name," perhaps...

I read the Bond books when I was very young - maybe 15. I would not even consider reading the tribute books by other writers. That phenomenon is predatorial. Hey writer, create your own bloody character!

My problem with the films - apart from a few sparks of interest - early Connery, Lazenby, the first Craig - the Bond films often came off as pretty unsophisticated - a superhero in a tux, the worship of mainstream brands, a prestige car, a silly watch and a model girlfriend. It's the stuff of a 14 year-old boy's wank fantasies. A black chick who can take us into fresh places may be a nice change.

But that's my point. It could be considered a continuation of the 007 franchise, but not of the James Bond franchise. Realistically speaking, she would be another agent in the organization, whether they gave her the 007 designation or not. Iow, just another secret agent film.

I'll tell you one thing, its great marketing.

Here we are talking about it, when we hadn't been previously. And I'm sure similar conversations (with varying degrees of outrage) are happening all over the place instead of the rather stagnant state of nobody really caring too much about Bond movies.

People suddenly care more about James Bond than they probably have in many years.
